The Rum Mercenary & Kintra Clarendon Sample X The Clarendon Distillery 2006
People who chase Clarendon's dry, spicy side will find their bottle here. The nose is the star — apricot, yellow fruit, glue and ester funk — but the palate swings hard into pepper, oak and a herbal, menthol-and-licorice bitterness that dries you out. One taster called it a "weird but tasty Clarendon." Fruit fades fast; wood and spice stay to the end.
The community says- Fruity funky nose
- Real Clarendon character

How does The Rum Mercenary & Kintra Clarendon Sample X The Clarendon Distillery 2006 taste?
Aggregated from 40 community reviews.
Great nose, dry and bitter woody palate Most agree the nose is lovely — fruity, funky, intense — but the palate turns harsh, woody and bitter, with the 63.2% not fully tucked in. A real Jamaican, just not a gentle one.

Wird im Abgang immer trockener und bitter ansonsten ein schöner Carendon.

Weird but tasty Clarendon. It has a weird peaty note. Cool stuff.
Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
Typical Clarendon blend of moderate esters and a hoppy, bitter spiciness - this one is esp. very much on the menthol and herbal side in the mouth. In addition, strong roasted aromas that also float around happily in the bottle. I would classify the pith more with the EMB than MMW. If it Jamaica but no high-ester rum should be, this is currently the everyday bottle in the cupboard. Alcohol integration could be a little better, but is also still quite young. Beautiful rum!

A pleasant drinking Clarendon, the 63.2 I find quite well balanced. Nice yellow fruity nose that turns to spice on the palate, ending with a warm, not too short finish. No High Ester but just a real Jamaican, which does not overwhelm.👍

Intense, bitter, greasy, strong spicy notes and fruity funk that is classic Clarendon. Sipping it was enjoyable. On a whim I made a maitai out of this and it was spectacular!

Pretty good rum and a nice surprise. Wood and fruit from nose to finish with some added spiciness. The funk and ester is very present and nice. There is a hint of nuts, licorice and menthol in the back. I love the warm finish it has.

Actually Clarendon is not my favorite, but this is already very intense with spices, bitterness, almonds, astringency, toasted aromas and wood.
Review by DomM
Overall more on the harsh side. Typical notes of herbs and some fruits.
Review by Thunderbird
In the nose a typical Clarendon and very intense, on the palate it unfortunately loses something... the woody and especially hot spices predominate, fruit is hardly present! In the finish again typical Clarendon!Overall okay!

At first a flurry of alcohol, but needs some time to develop. Heavy nose with dominant fruit. The taste is good, with fruit evolving into dry woodiness in the cheeks.
Review by Jakob
Unfortunately, somewhat unbalanced roasted notes, which bring a very tart-bitter overtone to the obligatory tropical and citrus fruits. In addition, wood, green notes, light minerality and menthol - not uninteresting, but unfortunately too massive roasted flavors for me.

I like the nose much better than on the palate. There it is quite sharp-edged after all.

A dusty, dry dresser. Solvent, butter cookie, fruit, then tobacco and toasted hazelnut. Very nice and complex. Some acidity. Alcohol well integrated. With a few drops of water it becomes spicier. Then in the mouth very spicy and dried fruit. In the finish full load of herbs and 10 min pulled Assam.Great nose, but after that a very tart pleasure. Too bad. Anyway, I should taste again a few MMs

Dommage.

Quite rough on the palate.

I personally find something very exhausting. Becomes better with much oxidation but overall it remains meaty, fermented, almost rotten. In addition, quite alcoholic, sour vinegar-like and overall rather sharp, spicy and especially very bitter. Unfortunately not my cup of tea. At least comes in the finish a light passion fruit and mint note to it, as well as some nutmeg. But I still do not get warm with this.

First attempt: quite harsh alcohol on nose and taste, need another go here. Second attempt: I am not impressed, the Alcohol is really sharp, and mutes the fruit a bit. Adding water does not change the way the alcohol behaves, but brings more fruit replacing some shy herbal notes, but it ist still not much. Wood is present, however, all the way to the end.

Nose of solvents and tropical fruits, in particular pineapple.Mouth that starts on the fruit but quickly switches to a very invasive woody.Long, bitter, burnt and drying finish...Not my thing...
