Appleton Signature Single Estate Jamaica Rum
Opinions land all over the place, but most people agree on the shape: a light, fruity Jamaican with banana, vanilla, honey and caramel, a gentle whiff of funk, and a short finish. Plenty like it as a first Jamaican and a mixer; sipped neat, several call it thin and a bit sharp for 40%. A workhorse bottle, not a deep one.

How does Appleton Signature Single Estate Jamaica Rum taste?
Aggregated from 226 community reviews.
Light, fruity entry Jamaican, best mixed Most see a fruity, easy entry Jamaican that shines in cola and cocktails. The common gripe: thin and one-dimensional neat, with a short finish that trails off fast.

Young and one-dimensional but makes a decent sipper
Review by Mark Leggett
Smells of fruit like guava and banana, slight woody hint and floral. Flavor is similar with spices hitting after a fruity start. Ends with ripe banana.

I like this particular rum in a Daiquiri with a dash of demerara.

Really good. This was my first Jamaican rum. I really enjoyed this both neat and in coke. I think I prefer this neat though.
Review by Gregor
At the end. Quite sweet. Very unusual for Appleton. Otherwise there are nice fruity notes paired with light spice. A good price-performance ratio. However, too weak

Fruchtig-besonders. Jamaika halt
Review by Decky Hicks Doughty
The nose has some crisp apple and foam banana notes. Sweet vanilla and oak in the background. Quite subtle. The palate has a sweet honey note that is most present but then some toasted marshmallows and ripe apricots. The finish is short but sweet, full of tannins and ends with earthy licorice. It's not bad. It's not going to blow your socks off. But can be sipped neat if required.
Review by HenryL
Not super complex on the nose and surprisingly vanilla-dominated. Some weird candied sweetness. Very thin and flat in the mouth, but what there is to find is delicious. The finish is a little spicier but otherwise similar. It's nothing for me neat, but it's great for mixing.

Mainly fruity, but no real Jamaicafeeling here yet. Minimally soapy/clinical, but after a little air spreads mainly dried flavors, especially apricot.Refreshingly unsweet on the palate with some barrel and toast in the middle part, while it tends towards the end very apricot and minimal mango.Solid mixer for the lighter variants, but probably sinks in 'nem Mai Tai with decent ingredients.
Review by Martin Ekrt
Aroma mild, mainly vanilla with molasses, a little coconut and something baked. Flavour mainly a mix of caramel and molasses, vanilla, some banana. Short finish more caramel with baking spices, light citrus and tropical fruit. A simple but fine rum.

If I could imagine myself as a brachiosaurus back in the jurassic period chewing on leaves and shit, my herbivore tendencies would graviate toward this rum. It's not neccesarily terrible, but neither is a dressingless garden salad. Appleton Signature was very herbal and grassy for me with a pungent mouthfeel. I wouldn't turn her down if offered, but I feel I'd personally reach for something else on the shopping shelf instead

Solid entry-level Jamaican but still a bit very spicy and sour bitter ...
Review by Max13
Some burn but subtle funk and complexity. Can see why it’s a good mixing rum
Review by Lutz Lungershausen
Re-Tasting 03.2026 Erster Eindruck: kackig, hart Nase: leichte Orange, tropische Früchte, rote Beeren, dahinter Vanille und Holz Gaumen: kratzig, fruchtig, Vanille, Holz, Abgang: mittellang, Holz, Tabak Gesamteindruck: trocken, leicht fruchtig, unspezifischer Einstiegs-Jamaikaner für Mixer. Hatte ich spannender und komplexer in Erinnerung.

First rum neat, didn’t love it, hoping for more interesting stuff in the future

Meiner Meinung nach ein solider Rum. Grade für Einsteiger gut geeignet. In der Nase schon sehr fruchtig was sich auch im Geschmack abzeichnet.. zum Kontrast dazu leichte Süße und Karamell. Kann man trinken

Read full review →Lovely for the pricepoint. A little okay with a distinct but subtle funkiness. Great for mixing.

Gives you an idea of what Javanese rum can be. But it's too sour and too fizzy for me, despite the low ABV. It is certainly designed exclusively for drinks.
