Rum Shark Uitvlugt 1999
Sipped neat is the only way here — a 21-year Uitvlugt at cask strength that leans dry, herbal and bitter rather than sweet. Expect licorice, anise, bitter lemon peel, minty herbs and that classic metallic copper note tasters keep flagging. Fans of continental-aged Guyana call it a "classic, solid Uitvlugt," though a couple found it soapy and a touch flat for the age.

It smells similar to Jamaica but the taste is different, I remembered Nectar of daily Dreams and it's Guyana. Some of the flavours are similar - a bit of medicine in there I feel...Very good rum - even my wife has tasted it twice.

I got a chance to taste this one right at the source, right at the nice little ,,coffee,, shop in Prague, whose owner is one of a guy who bottles these rums. Extraordinary for me. Minty, soft sweet. Nice rum.

I've had the sample for so long and am only now getting around to it... Nose: quite typical of Uitvlugt, spicy-roasty, slightly burnt with lots of lemon. Sweet-tropical with passion fruit and delicately spicy with cardamom. Green banana and metallic copper on the finish. Delicate and rather subtle on the nose, the age of 20 years is not yet noticeable. 8,2 Palate: powerful and burnt-spicy. Immediately an intense taste of soap in the mouth. Bitter lemon peel also goes well with this. Slightly salty and peppery with plenty of clove. You don't notice the age here, as it is hardly woody. Overall a little flat and too soapy for me. 7.6

Somewhat atypical for a Port Morant. Too many herbal notes for me.

A bit too rough on the palate, very smoky. The rest is a lot of classic continental aged Port Mourant profile, unfortunately overall a good a piece away from the top representatives of continental aged Uitvlugts.
