Savanna Collection Métissage Maputo 2003
Most tasters rate this Savanna highly, but there's a real split over the 64.2% strength. Fans get deep oak, raisin, cocoa, dark chocolate and roasted spice, with the Armagnac cask lending grape and dried fruit. Others find the alcohol bites hard on nose and palate — several say it needs long air and a splash of water to settle. One member called it "dirty" in the best way.

- Armagnac raisin depth
- Hot ABV integration

How does Savanna Collection Métissage Maputo 2003 taste?
Aggregated from 63 community reviews.
Dark, spicy Savanna with strong Armagnac grip Loved by most for its dark, spicy, Armagnac-driven depth, but genuinely divisive: a good few find the high ABV poorly integrated and need water and patience to open it up.

Okay :D I can’t explain, but this one tastes like red color. It is sensual but wild. Savana just can’t be a miss. There is some tar at the end. I also feel jelly cherries from Haribo. Grapes, licorice too.

One of the best savanna traditional rum ❤️💪

Really cool how much Savanna & Armagnac harmonize. Lots of wood, lots of spices, some glue, red chili flakes with dark chocolate raisin, pink grapefruit, red grapes and baked banana, as well as dark chocolate cookies. The finish is also a little bitter, astringent and with lots of tannins and glue, menthol and overripe banana and strong mocha, as well as really dark dark chocolate. Alcohol is very well integrated and really fun to drink. Very drinkable for a Savanna! For me, this is definitely the current benchmark when it comes to Savanna in an Armagnac cask.

I love it! 89 Maputo #988: Mit Assoziationen zu Cask 987, nur wesentlich besser.

A superb Savanna from one of the most recognizable series the distillery has launched. The nose is particularly concentrated, with beautiful woody notes and spices that are perfectly interwoven in the juice. Notes of licorice, nuts, grapes, cocoa and dark chocolate accentuate this aromatic intensity. The profile is relatively dark and heavy, but very elegant. The attack on the palate is particularly intense. There's a high concentration of roasted notes and spices (pepper, vanilla, licorice), which heat up the palate, but always with finesse. The influence of Armagnac casks, grapes and citrus notes of tangerine and grapefruit can be detected. Tobacco, caramel, brown sugar and dark chocolate complete this particularly dense profile, where the alcohol is very well integrated. On the finish, the rum is subtler and sweeter, but with a fine aromatic imprint of oak barrel notes, spicy chili and vanilla, and darker aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, tobacco and roasted notes. There's a slightly bitter, herbaceous edge that goes well with tea, dried fruit and grapes (thank you, Armagnac). A Savanna in the image of its label: powerful, majestic and imposing.

Komplex with heavy aromas on the nose. Intense with spices, cacoa, lots of dried fruits. I think the Armagnac did some nice work here. Very nice. On the palate tastebuds very thick again. Creamy texture again with dark and intense flavors. You can taste the long tropical again again with some positive influence from the armagnac. I would even call this a bit „dirty“. Very nice bottling.

Complexe and pleasant nose swift dark… but less complex mouth A nice final, elegant, evaporating to something open and fresh.

Exkellenter Traditionell mit perfektem Armagnac-Finish! Sehr lecker.

Tolik ovoce v nekolika malo kapkach tekutiny jste dlouho necitili.
Review by Arnaud Faverjon

Review by Johnny Rumcask

Review by Jakob
A comparatively roasty Savanna representative, which in my opinion speaks for the exciting range of the distillery. Apart from that, in addition to the roasted notes mentioned, there is primarily some fruit, wood and vanilla sweetness from the cask. Good, but not a Savanna that I would want a bottle of.
Review by RumTaTa
The nose is strongly in the direction of bourbon. I don't perceive the typical markers of the distillery so strongly. Very barrel-heavy on the palate. The finish is also unsurprising and of medium length. A little disappointing overall.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
This one needs to stand for a long time before the ABV stops biting on your nose and on the palate it also bites so I added some water after which it opened up a bit. I'd set the ABV integration on this one to really poor and I usually really like Savanna but this one is out of character.
