Habitation Velier Hampden HGML 2010
Here's the surprise: for a 62% Hampden, the glue-and-solvent side stays in check and the fruit runs the show. Reviewers keep landing on ripe pineapple, banana, marzipan and papaya, with soft vanilla and well-integrated oak underneath. Tropical aging shows — several call it the roundest, most harmonious HGML they've had, and it holds its own against the C<>H many taste it beside.

Intensely fruity, beautifully balanced Hampden Repeatedly named a top tropically-aged Hampden and a favorite Mai Tai base. Intensely fruity with polished esters; the only recurring gripe is a finish that fades a touch quickly.

For me, still a touch before the C<>H, although that can be justified m.E. only exclusively subjective and is dependent not least on the form of the day. How much better tropically stored Hampden still goes probably remains to be seen - but for me this is definitely already absolute top class.
Review by cigares

Even years after its release, this is still a true benchmark for tropical Hampdens. For me this is clrearly ahead of the 2010 single cask with 12y aging. Amazing HGML. In fact this is - alongside the HV 2010 C<>H - the best tropically aged Hampden I tried so far. Brilliant bottling.

Wow ... really very, very tasty. A real cracker. Update: in a duel against the 6y0 hgml Spirits in the sky, it defends its throne of the Hampdens. Fuller-bodied, warmer and less acidic Tasted again and still delicious. The taste also keeps very well in the opened sample bottle.

Papaya and strained banana on marzipan. The feeling when the rum reaches the mouth is a true orgasm of the senses. Lots of fruit, slightly candied, dance up and down on the tongue and do not want to disappear. The fruit notes continue deep into the palate and are wonderfully rounded off by wood and tannins.

A phenomenal rum that creates a sensation on the nose and palate. The aromatic power of Jamaican funk is evident on the nose, with overripe exotic fruits and esters, solvents, varnish and glue, followed by notes of marzipan, spices and vanilla. The attack on the palate is a thing of beauty: the balance between fruit, phenolic notes, wood and spices is perfect. The rum has a fat, full texture, and is extremely greedy and round, without the slightest aggressiveness on the palate. The finish is long and dry, with tannins and spicy notes adding to the fruit and esters. A superb rum that marvelously combines power, aromatic complexity and finesse.

Review by Benoit Mahe
The nose is typical, with solvents, glue and esters mixed with tropical fruits (pineapple!) but not only (apple, cherry). The whole is fermented. The palate is frank, fruity and acidic. Esters and tropical fruit dominate. Unctuous and full-bodied. The finish is oily and evolving (passion fruit, esters). Quite simply, an excellent Hampden.

Against the HV HLCF tasted. Comes to me somehow not quite as horny rüber, can also not say exactly why. Seems set and relaxed. Not what I expect from a Hampden. Nevertheless, of course, brute tropical part. HLCF I just like better. Will get a 2nd chance.

A very nice surprise indeed. This is a well balanced and complex rum despite its age. The proof has been well integrated though it's there. Some may prefer a drop or two of water. The nose is wonderful and there from the start. I let it rest for close to 30 minutes after which there was even more flavours. Typical funky nose with overripe fruit and ester with a bit of wood. The palate is equally nice with a minty touch on the fruitiness, complex and well balanced with a touch of oak. The finish is long and warm with esters and raisins and again a slight touch of wood.

An outstanding Hampden. Perfect ester level!

Admittedly, the HGML is also a pretty blatant candidate, the basic character compared to the C<>H are very similar. However, everything is so much rounder, more harmonious and overall so much better. I really like it here, the fruitiness and spice are pretty well balanced. This is definitely something you can pour yourself from time to time

Edit: nochmal Nachschub besorgt.
Review by LukaŽiga
9:On the nose, esters and glue, nail polish, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, red fruits with strawberry, citrus fruits, briny olive, tea, roasted wood notes, caramelized, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, cherries join, vinegar, some spiciness and marzipan, the molasses is sweet with honey, herbaceous, flowery. 9:On the palate, the attack is funky, intense, but full-bodied with esters, glue, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like banana and pineapple, mango, red(sour cherry, strawberry), citrus fruits, like a marmelade, roasted wood notes with burnt sugar, meaty, spicy with allspice, vanilla, anise, slightly smoky with phenol, as the molasses is vegetal. 8,9:The finish is long, dry and slightly tannic, oily, with esters, overripe fruits pairing roasted, smoky, spicy wood notes.
