New Yarmouth S.B.S Jamaica 1994
The surprise here is how un-Jamaican it drinks: barely any of the ester funk you'd expect, just wave after wave of coconut, chocolate, toffee and creamy caramel. A few tasters even said it reads more like a Foursquare or a Panama rum. There's a little glue and solvent on the nose, and the old cask shows as some roast and bitterness. Rich, creamy, dessert-like — a "genuine pastry."

How does New Yarmouth S.B.S Jamaica 1994 taste?
Aggregated from 100 community reviews.
Creamy coconut-chocolate Jamaican, low on funk Loved for its creamy coconut-and-chocolate profile, though several note it's atypical for Jamaica and, being reduced, a touch thin with some cask bitterness compared to other NY94s.

Dadar gulung in liquid as you know it from Bali! Caramelized coconut chips with baked banana in perfection. extremely tasty and different from many other 94 new Yarmouths! mega intense and very tasty, but also a bit charred and barrel-heavy, bitter in the finish. Overall, despite the reduced alcohol content, definitely the sweetest and fruitiest of them all! Great stuff.

Unusually much coconut for a NY1994. Nice power and still quaffable. Pleases me very well!

Typical notes for the 1994 Vintage. Caramel, fruit esters, spice and wood aromas. Unfortunately, the barrel seems to have had quite an impact here, relatively roasty and bitter. In direct comparison to other representatives of the vintage, in the midfield.

This one is really good and despite the age the wood is not overly dominant. Fruity with spices, lovely caramel and leather and some chocolate in the background. Should have bought a few bottles when still available 😊

A very great Jamaican. Before tasting and smelling necessarily let the glass stand a few minutes. It is gentle and not too intrusive but still full of character and length. Melting, creamy after coconut.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Super quaffable. I like the 94 NY. The SBS has more coco like the VM, the RA is more intense and overall for me still a bit better than SBS and VM.

Chose this for my 250th rum tasting (be not irritated, I did not publish my earliest ones as they are without any notes) from my sample box. Had it I two separate sessions one at the river (picture) and one at home. The first try was a bit thin on the tongue, but that was expected in not ideal circumstances. It already had some power. The second try had a long time to breathe obviously und was much more intense tastewise. I got what I expected from a NY of this age, wood and spice was there and gave it a classic background. The Alcohol is not harsh, and in the aftertaste I was surprised by a sudden appearance of slight jamaican Funk. Nice!

A not so typical Jamaica rum, where the nose is a bit less estery. Fresh in the nose with hints of dried fruits and red berries. In the notes it has a lot of coconut, and honey-like sweetness and the wood leaves and impression in the taste

Excellent. Very greedy, very pastry-like, no fruity funk. Alcohol very well integrated. Very round and well patinated by the years without being marked by eucalyptus and menthol. Just great.
Review by mto75
At first it seems a bit strange that the expected ester notes don't want to come up at all, but once you get into it, you get a really good, round rum here.
Review by Johannes
The alcohol is better integrated compared to the 94 Rum Artesanal, but the finish is a bit flat and short.
Review by Thunderbird
A New Yarmouth of a somewhat different kind! Not the full ester power, rather restrained, but very pleasantly soft... a feeling of summer sets in with the pleasure! Delightful!
