Isla del Ron South Pacific Fiji 2001
Sip it neat at cask strength and let it breathe — this is where the 2001 Fiji vintage shows off. Honey and tropical fruit up front (papaya, banana), then the dirty side kicks in: glue, rubber, tar, a medicinal iodine note, smoke and pepper. Long, creamy, drying finish. Several tasters call it their Fiji reference, though a couple find it too bitter and medicinal.

Typical Fiji profile. Nice mix of dirtiness and sweetness

Awesome shit, my first Fiji that I like (but I've only had 4 so far). A really cool nose with summer honey, wax, tar, butter, medicinal notes and fruits. Thanks to Buddudharma for the sample 🙌🏽🙏 Update: Fiji 2001 Community Tasting - big thanks to Jakob for organizing this blind tasting. A great vintage and a comparison not without surprise. For me, the two Artesanal rums, neither of which I drank to the end, were the worst. An unpleasant juniper off-note was particularly disturbing (very pronounced in the rx15398, slightly better but still disturbing in the rx7779). Then, for me, the Rum Cask rx479 brought up the rear (i.e. very good / with the right markers), but not as great as the others. Surprisingly, the Isla del Ron, which has had a small reference status in my heart since I tried it, landed in next place for me. But it was overtaken in the blind test by the delicious Whisky Jury (rx13025) and then by the sensational. cave Guildive (rx1717). For me, the Cave Guildive is the winner of the classic Fiji 2002 profile and is really top. I only rated the Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) higher ... this one is much woodier but also ultra-tasty. It was also clearly recognizable blind and made the photo finish millimeters behind the Plantation rx11133, which probably also stood out because it was so un-Fiji2001 and has a great glue-caramel Guyana nose. Verdict: Typical Fiji winners are the Cave Guildive on the fruity-honey-feelgood side and the Flag on the woody. the Plantation is the wildcard winner. The two RA bottlings are the two that remain far below the level of the other two.

Thanks to Jakob, I had the pleasure of tasting a wide range of the Fiji 2001 bottlings. Although I've had a few in my glass before, the result surprised me again, as my previous favorite ended up in last place. However, it has to be said that I didn't give most of them time to develop due to a time problem. So here is the result of the blind tasting, which differs from the scoring. Corrected downwards Wow, what a great rum from Fiji. I regret having forgotten this one at the Fiji tasting with DomM. From memory, this would definitely have been number 1. Thanks for the sample Mariano56. You really didn't promise too much.

RumX Fiji Crosstasting April 2024 Place 4/8 Unfortunately falls short of expectations and only reaches the solid midfield in blind tasting. Is much more complex than the final ranks and expected with more beautiful woody notes.

What a great nose. Honey, smoke, fruit etc. Complex, perfectly balanced. In the mouth then the full load of plastic. Warm and strong, again a lot of honey. At the end you suck on a leather bag (real or yet imitation leather?).Geil. Really not my Beuteschema, but has surprised me positively.😄

RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001.

Great thing.Light sweetness, Light saltiness, nice fruitiness. Not as long finish as the RA, but nice mouthfeel.Super PLV

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: Didn’t quite make it into the top 3 tasted blindly. Nevertheless a. very nice bottling. Well balanced yet powerful and exiting with high complexity and a nice evolution in the palate. 4th place. Cheers to Jakob!

This was a huge surprise and I can only recommend it. The price at release was really good compared to what you get. Fruity rum with some medicinal notes and nice roasted wood. There is a light tar note in there that I like. In the empty glass there is a nice smoky note after a while. Draws really nice curtains.

Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
This is so great! The nose is typical Fiji plus an intense honey note that ties everything together. In the mouth incredibly creamy, complex and intense: sage tea with honey, candied Greek sesame sticks and olives in brine. Then in the finish more sage tea and a little more wood, which shows itself in light spice without becoming unpleasantly bitter.alcohol is very well integrated and the finish long and smooth!

A great rum.... Complex on the nose, on the palate...almost perfect...if the finish would follow that, yes then , it would be absolute reference!

Compared to the younger vintages completely different. Very complex in flavor. Alcohol top integrated. Super rum.

Tolle Süße und absolut rund.

The immediately flexes its muscles 💪 On the nose, citrus, honey, coriander, fermented and milk cream. On the palate leather, toasty notes, papaya, acacia honey that goes far into the finish. Here we are in the very top Fiji drawer!

Wow, what a nice round nose. Fruity yet somewhat artificially medicinal. It comes after some time an almost buttery yogurt note with banana, papaya and honey. Plus something old, resinous or even a bit earthy. Vanilla and a hint of fresh mint come in.Spicier on the palate and bitter at first with a caramel note. Then come fruity flavors of currant, sour cherry and peach. Again, the old earthy and resinous; old newsprint. Clove and vanilla. Finishes a bit soapy.Tasty and interesting. More rounded than the RA.Great old Fiji.

Crosstasting mit Jakob und einigen Forummitgliedern am 25.4.2024. Platz 5.

Super Fiji, Favorit bisher heute Abend. Tolle Mischung aus Frucht und Funk. Alkohol top integriert.

Review by RumTaTa
Second tasting with a few drops of water: definitely does no harm, the alcohol is now not at all disturbing in the nose and there is a buttery note to it.The nose is very fruity and strongly resembles rums from Jamaica. In the taste and finish surprisingly notes appear that I would rather attribute to young rums - especially a strong alcoholic spiciness and a metallicity.

Review by Jakob

super acidic and industrial Fiji, with an amazing fruity nose. such a robust distillate!
