La Hechicera Fine Aged Rum
Sipped neat or over ice, this Colombian column-still blend leans into vanilla, cocoa, milk chocolate and woody spice, with a little orange peel and dried fruit around the edges. Several tasters call it a mild, honest everyday sipper that's dry rather than sugared. The catch shows up in the mouth: at 40% it reads a touch thin, and the wood can flatten the fruit the nose promises.

An extremely decent rum for the price. Very South American style (and joy) without sugar. A product to have in your bar without second thoughts... A typical South American nose... Woody, floral, and fruity, all in a gentle way. A fruity palate leaning towards coffee and caramel with a nice spicy kick... A short, woody, and spicy finish... A bit of a shame. But that doesn't take away from its qualities. It could use a few more degrees of ABV.

Delicious easy zipping rum with lots of milk chocolate and banana, plus winter spices.

Have bought this rum mainly because of the beautiful bottle. Actually a Red Flag, if you are looking for good taste, this one has surprised me relatively positively. Due to the only 40% somewhat watered down and thin and not too complex but a nice Feierabend Sipper at a good price. Definitely a great entry rum and superior to the many dead sugared competitors.Addendum: last drop is out of the bottle. Complex? Rather less. Good sipper? Definitely. A good unsweetened representative of the Spanish style. A little more power would have done it good. A >50% version would be nice. Still, great price/performance. Overall rating 2

un bon senteur vanille, un très fort goût de vanille, non sucré et tendre.

very nice and rather unique under the latin style rums. the aroma seems roasted and nutty. the wood is pretty strong but well integrated. Like most latin rums it doesn't throw too much at you, but I enjoy this one a lot. Higer abv would be great

Medium-bodied with a nutty flavor. Some charred barrel notes. Reminds me of bourbon.

7,5:On the nose, initially quite sharper oak, tobacco, a little chocolate, coffee. Sultanas, pralines, almonds, dried fruits, more confectionary notes come to front after some time. A touch vegetal (green plantain), turnip then more oak & vanilla. It's a pleasant nose overall, not offensive at all, sweet but not sickly. 7,5:On the palate, there are prunes, nougat, oranges, a hint of cooked peach/apricots, molasses, a little banana peel, incense, dried fruits, lots of prominent spicy oak. 7,2:The finish is on the medium side, over steeped black tea, blackcurrant buds, juniper, a little marzipan & floral..

A freat surprise for me especially considering price/performance ratio. Very pleasant rum in general from Colombia the land of Dictador. I like this more than banana experiment which was extremely sweet to me. A very sympathetic feelings it left.

02.10.2016 - 03.10.2016 A great extended weekend with rum friends. This was a nice event and lots of space between the tables. Only problem was the level of English at some of the exhibitors. Here are the rums we tasted at the event itself, nothing truly unique but we had fun. This is the first half of the tastings. Notes Light roasted wood, vanilla, orange, light coffee, light dried fruit, faint caramel. Palate Light, light wood, light coffee, orange, light chocolate, light smoke, sweet, earthy. Finish Short to medium, light wood, light tobacco, light coffee, faint chocolate, nutts.

Hechicera is a molasses rum from Colombia's Caribbean coast. It is distilled in a continuous column at the Casa Santana distillery in Barranquilla. It was then aged by maestro ronero Giraldo Mituoka Kangana (of Japanese origin), using the solera system. This involves a complex blend of rums aged from 12 to 21 years. The older rums "educate" the younger ones throughout the maturation process. This rum, made exclusively from bourbon barrels, is bottled without any additives or colorants.

A good rum. Caramel and chocolate on the nose. Less sweet on the palate than expected: smoky chocolate, woody and vanilla. I am positively surprised. Somewhat short finish. Still a clear recommendation to buy.

I like it... Strong and concrete enaugh for advanced rum drinkers 😉👍

Hints of cocoa, caramel, brown sugar and a little alcohol come to mind. The taste is then very chocolaty, complemented by some caramel, vanilla and leather. This remains the case in the short finish. It is an honest rum from Colombia that is suitable as an easy sipper without great expectations.
