Medine Estate Penny Blue VSOP
Vanilla, oak and butter caramel lead here, with roasted almond and a bit of dark chocolate underneath. It's a light, easy-drinking Mauritian rum most people call a friendly entry point — sweet-leaning but not cloying, with a short finish. A few tasters wish it had a couple more percent of ABV; one found the nose better than the palate.

The nose has lots of oak, roasted almond, floral cognac and a distance smokiness. The palate keeps the oak the nose. On the sweeter side. There's also hazelnuts, sugarcane and a prickle of cinnamon. Toasted coconut husk and a touch of vanilla towards the finish. The finish is surprisingly long. Still sweet but now with dark chocolate notes and the smokiness from the nose shows up. A very nice rum. Very easy drinking, lot's of flavour and depth. A rum that somebody new to drinking neat spirits would love. Reminds me of Santa Teresa 1796.

The Penny Blue VSOP is quite ok. I think the nose is better than the palate. Nose: chocolate, vanilla and also wood comes through. Vanilla and wood on the palate as well, plus some caramel. But I find it a little too alcoholic.

Nice rum but without being crazy. Bought to have a bar with mid-range rums for friends coming to have an aperitif. Very smooth, almost no finish but easy to drink! I think that the 40% does not play in its favor but it remains a very good value for money!

Guter Einsteigerrum. Schöne Vanillin-Note aus dem Eichenfass.

This Penny Blue VSOP is a smooth, well-balanced, and vanilla-rich rum that leans on gentle wood and caramel accents. It’s particularly well-suited for casual sipping or as an accessible entry point to the Penny Blue line. Value-conscious and friendly for social settings, its simplicity is part of its charm.

Surprisingly expressive for such a young rum with only 40%. Roasted nuts, dark chocolate, butter caramel, some banana and nice roasted aromas from the oak barrel. Could of course do with a few more % and is quickly gone again, but you can't complain for the money. Solid Mauritius starter!
Review by Rumpalumpa
Ein sehr angenehmer, leichter und frischer Rum, bei dem die Lagerung nichts überdeckt. Die verschiedenen Fässer sorgen für interessante Noten, von frischen vegetalen Anklängen zu Frucht und leichtem Holz.

Read full review →This is a lighter style of rum but it does have a few rougher edges which give it a bit extra character. At £24 it's very good value. An everyday sipper if you like. I would urge anyone embarking on a "Rum Journey" and trying to save a few coppers...
