Velier Hampden Pure Single Jamaican Rum LROK 2010
Pineapple, ripe banana and a whiff of glue lead here, with vanilla and light oak from 11 tropical years in cask. This is a softer, gentler LROK — the classic Hampden funk is dialed back at 47%. Many find it easy and fruit-forward, but a lot of tasters call it thin on the palate and wish it hit harder.

How does Velier Hampden Pure Single Jamaican Rum LROK 2010 taste?
Aggregated from 189 community reviews.
Soft, fruity Hampden that runs a bit thin Most people like it as an easy, fruity Hampden, but the recurring gripe is real: the dilution to 47% leaves it thin and a touch short, with the funk muted.

Nice rum, but too similar to hampden the younger and the 50 euro difference is a tease to the consumer. Unfortunately lately Velier is releasing overpriced bottlings where you pay for the brand and less for the quality of the product. Personally I would never buy it taking into account that the overproof can be found at 80 euros and this at 110 and the younger at 59.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that produces rum as well as alcohol for perfume. In all the rums from this distillery you will taste wild esters, after which your whole organism will soak up the smell of golden tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the "must try before you die" rums

Retasting today and still love it :-) A very good Hampden so happy I bought 2 bottles at a very reduced price. Price to quality is good.

So you immediately smell Hampden. In the taste and finish, smoky spicy notes overpower the tropical fruits, so you can't really taste any specific fruits.
Review by Aussierumfan
A beautiful nose, this smells great! In the mouth I am getting lots of tropical fruit, pineapple, mango and the like. Glue, Vanilla, touch of caramel, small amount of spice. A mild and balanced Hampden. It's defintly no funk bomb but it doesn't need to be! A very enjoyable rum, medium length finish, I am actually enjoying the slightly lower than normal ABV.

Tasting 19/4-24 Peters vin. I was really looking forward too taste this Hampden. Nose: pineapple, banana. Taste: lots of pineapples, little citrus and some glue. A little funkiness, but i was disappointed. Finish: Dry with some oak - but again i was disappointed.

I have read only non-positive comments about this hampden but I must say that instead I find it very good and the 47% reveals much more pronounced notes of tropical fruits where generally the solvent and ester notes are more present!A nice surprise!

Too much reduction and a watery finish. This Hampden is for the novice Jamaican. But which novice will put 125 euros in a bottle?Edit December 2022:The bottle was opened a long time ago and I found it was not a great Jamaican but a very good spirit. A bit like the Long Pond ITP 15, we are not overwhelmed by the esters and very balanced with notes of candied fruits and caramelized touches. I don't have the watery side at all and it makes you want to fold your glass. Simply put.

Three years since last tasting and I like it better this time, bumping it a point. - New tasing and I really like the Asphalt part
Review by Oliver
A little milder and thinner than the "The Younger". Personally, a bit too "soft" for a Hampden.
Review by BTHHo 🥃
The taste has the expected Hampden power, lots of tropical fruit, hints of vanilla bean and licorice.
Review by Thunderbird

Hampden with lime and licorice.

Edit: fits very well with the cigar (H.Upmann54). Gives an extra rating point😉I don't really know what to make of this Hampden. The funky ester notes take a big back seat in favor of wood, vanilla and spice. It's more exciting than the Hampden 46%/8 year, but in no way comes close to the Great House...for me, a Hampden doesn't necessarily need such a long cask aging, I'm more likely to pick up on the fat fermented fruit as offered by the Rum Fire in its purest form! Tomorrow, the 2010 will be tasted again to the cigar, maybe I change d

Review by Basti
On the nose, mainly ripe tropical fruit, pineapple, chewing gum and some solvent in the background. A little flat on the palate due to the dilution. I still like it overall. PLV unfortunately not so good.
Review by cigares
Review by Sebastian Kornett
Unfortunately too thin just like the 7 and 8 year old, there the overproof has performed better. Would be nice an overproof variant of this.
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
A warm woody oaky Hampden. Round, full bodied. Dried fruits. Fermented Pineapple. Pretty pretty good. Not worth the 130€ though.
Review by Master P
Nose with typical tropical fruit but also a distinctly floral note, you like to smell it a little longer. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the taste. Overall, it's balanced but clearly watered down, so that the fruit and spice disappear relatively quickly in the finish. I had expected more power esters and fruit from the hampden, there are definitely better hampdens for the price. I've had the bottle open for 4 months and it's got a bit better, or I've got used to the taste😅

A very nice Hampden edition in the LROK mark. Very affordable and smooth for beginners. Nice notes of ripe fruits and esters that mix with great sweetness with sugar, vanilla and pepper. A medium finish that maybe lacks intensity, but is still very pleasant in the mouth.
Review by Benoit Mahe
A very charming nose on the typical markers of the distillery (a nice pineapple, esters, a lot of fruits). The mouth is sweet with dried fruits, tropical fruits and esters. A rum unfortunately a little too diluted, which lacks fatness and grip. The finish is short. It remains a good rum, accessible, easy and without headache. Unfortunately it seems that Hampden struggles to excel at low degrees. Second passage: better impression, warmer and buttery, with a fuller texture, the dilution is less disturbing.
Review by Henry Davies
Ester heavy LROK. A little bit thin for my tastes. Incredibly smooth for the ABV and age. Nose is funky with fruit compost elements. Mouth is multi layered, some spice with medium burn and pineapple notes. A grassy and complex finish with many layers of flavour which change over time. Good but was hoping for more

The quintessential Hampden, shtick!
Review by Serge
In the mouth a little thin at first ... but then gets a little better. Clearly too expensive but still a good rum.
Review by Vinkes89
Where is the 🔥? No idea if it is even the character that is missing. The nose of the rum is very good and you expect a lot. On the palate, it's indulgent and doesn't give much of itself away. There is a lot missing. The fruit note in the smell is unfortunately not found in the mouth.
Review by Frank
VSGB! Nice!Nose: first pleasantly buttery with lime zest. This is joined by caramelized pineapple. A freshness that also reminds me slightly of dishwashing liquid. The esters also come through with a slight vinegar note and some polish. Something slightly vegatible towards green olive comes at the back.Palate: already a bit thin! Seems slightly salty and a bit acidic. I find lime again and something tart and nutty, like hazelnut. Spicier than the nose, with vanilla and anise. Back again caramel and green tea in the finish.Nice pith, but unfortunately too much downgraded and PLV not balanced!
Review by Christian Rudt
Really great nose with typical tropical fruit but also a distinct floral note, because one smells gladly something longer on it.Unfortunately, this can not be said about the taste quite so. Overall, although balanced but clearly watered down, so that the fruit and spice disappear relatively quickly in the finish. The existing tobacco note says to me here also not completely.
Review by Lukas Jäger
Very disappointing Hampden. Nose still okay, but also somewhat atypical, with floral notes. With comes old hay in mind. On the palate completely watered down, too thin, boring. The typical Hampden profile is apparent, but again interspersed with floral notes. Something different for a change, but not least because of the watering simply not exciting, a pity....
Review by Rare Akuma
Tropical fruits and wood on the nose supported by a earthy, grassy base. The taste is equally nice: fresh and baked banana, red fruits, oak and a plethora of blackberries with a light medicinal hint to finish. However the spirit is overdiluted, subdueing the classic Hampden profile and dragging what could be into bland, boring territory. All in all this is a good rum, but the price/quality is absolutely laughable. There are many, many more interesting spirits to try in this price category.
Review by Eric Frechin
Review by Michael Schillheim
Very mild and easy drinking Hampden, but for me personally it is not worth the extra price to The Younger.
Review by Caroni.Martin
I can understand the displeasure of the nerds - 5-6% more would have stood him well. I still find him good drinkable and tasty. More complex than the standard I find him also especially in the nose - there I find him sensational. 125€ is ne house number but is probably just fine.
Review by Romain de L
Good and nice - very Jamaican and Hampden. Perhaps the taste was a bit « dry » - but pleasant overall
Review by Sebastian.W
On the nose you get the classic Hampden notes, but the taste suffers under the dilution. Would be better at a higher ABV. The price at release was also too high in my opinion.
Review by Louis Zimmermann

Not bad not bad... a little more percent would have done well... easy to drink - and Edison a little too little....
Review by Arthur Moreau
A "light" Hampden. The reduction makes it very accessible without breaking all the Jamaican markers. Midpalate seems shortened by the low degreeThe price remains its only big flaw
Review by Per Iversen
Excellent 👌🏻 Color: Golden. Aroma: Fruity aroma of banana chips, camphor and citrus. Taste notes: The expected Hampden power, lots of tropical fruit, hints of vanilla bean and licorice.
Review by Portman
A typical Hampden with an unobtrusive ester profile, plenty of spicy dried fruit (especially on the nose), gingerbread, dates, woody vanilla and a fine, berry finish.
Review by daiquiri_lab
A nice Hampden rum as an entry to the world, but lacks wow factor. There's a general tropical fruit and spice thing going on with a bit of glue on the nose with a bit of vanilla and other spice joining in on the tongue. Fairly mild and sippable at 47% it makes an enjoyable if not impressive daiquiri, particularly stirred, but does not really take water well.
Review by Michal S
The taste is rather unusual Hampden with notes of vanilla and wood (tropical fruits and esters are not missing), alcohol is well integrated, price is higher.
Review by Boletus
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Not as intense as the 2010 LROK of Habitation Velier, but this is logical, since this one was diluted. Thus, however, quite easy and pleasant to drink. Balanced and still light to medium ester notes as typical of Hampden. I find him tasty, but with over 100 euros /0.7l for a rum in drinking strength simply too expensive.

Very accessible and enjoyable rum. One of my favourites from 2021
Expert review by Zucker und Zeste
Beautiful nose in the mouth but initially a bit thin. Develops then, however, by an amazingly long finish for the percentages and the not yet so luxuriant age. The price is clearly too high
