Velier Blairmont <B> 1991
People land high on this one but not unanimously: most call it a rich, "gourmand" Demerara full of caramel, coconut, milk chocolate and dark fruit, with the 56% woven in beautifully. The catch several tasters raise is the finish — it flattens and fades faster than the nose promises. A few even mistook it blind for an aged Foursquare.

Aggregated from 53 community reviews.
Rich caramel-coconut Demerara with a short finish Loved for its round caramel-coconut-chocolate depth and perfectly buried alcohol, though several note a short, quick-fading finish and say it isn't quite the peak of Velier's Demeraras.

Slightly flatter than its big brother from 1982, more sticky, but also somewhat more balanced and less alcoholic. Nevertheless, it narrowly loses the race because its older brother has a little more balance.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Incredibly intense DNA in this rum. I would have imagined it a bit less smoky and burnt when neat, although it also positively reminds me of a very intense, strong, almost too hot espresso or mocha. Along with nice notes of dark Demerara sugar, glue, coconut, currant, and a bit of orange peel in the finish. Really awesome stuff, alcohol perfectly integrated, and a truly exceptional profile! Blindfolded, it could almost pass as an older Foursquare with a finish.
Review by Giorgio Garotti
A Demerara with absolute balance and elegance! This rum is really easy to drink and contains all the deliciousness that this distillery can offer you! Another dream would have been to taste its 1982 version!

The nose is to fall in love! Sensational rum!
Review by Benoit Mahe
A greedy and powerful Demerara. If you like this profile it is a treat. The finish could have been longer. In reality it is very good but this bottle costs a fortune and a very good Foursquare (like Velier, Swells or Nobiliary for example) gives as much pleasure, is relatively easy to find and costs much less.

Basically another gem from Jakob's endless magic hat. Again in a blind tasting. Unfortunately, this one can't quite keep up with the other cream pieces for me, but nonetheless. An extremely tasty one.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A rum whose rarity is matched only by its elegance. The olfactory profile plunges us into the heart of the Demerara terroir, with spicy notes, dark notes of coffee and chocolate, a woody note that blends well into the decor, and above all very pretty exotic fruits that embellish the nostrils. The profile is slightly sweet and caramelized, but makes this rum very greedy on the nose alone. On the palate, there is a flourish of spices, woody and roasted notes, chocolate and succulent coconut and dried fruit flavors that intermingle without taking over. There is a harmony of flavors in the mouth that is truly remarkable. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, the 56% bringing character but not particularly felt. The finish, perhaps a little less rich and full than the rest of the tasting would suggest, is a little more subdued. The aromas dissipate rather quickly, a certain warmth emerges but it does not change the register previously described. An intoxicating, complex and sensual rum, which is part of the legend Demerara Velier, and which unfortunately has become a subject of enormous covetousness that exceeds the understanding.

This is a pretty good Velier. In my mind this is not your typical Velier, there is something different, more rough to this one and I really like that. The nose is pretty strong on the oak, without being too dominant. Caramel, nuts and vanilla follows with a light earthy note with polish on top. The palate sets off where the nose left off. The oak is a bit lighter but there is a smoky touch in there as well. Then lots of fruit, vanilla and caramel followed by tobacco and a hint of rubber. The finish is medium long with a warm touch to the smoky oak and fruits. The only disappointment wa the finish was over so fast. The bottle is very expensive if you find it, but at release the price was pretty good.

Another Demerara pastry 😋 Mouth is even better than the nose with perfectly integrated alcohol and better aromatic concentration.
Review by Frank
Wow, what a nose. Insanely intense, full-bodied and simply delicious. Lovely sweet, spicy, complex. Raisin and dried currant with orange and tangerine. A subtle sweetness of burnt sugar in honey, almost floral. Then some vanilla and dry dust, lightly toasted, a bit leathery out the back. Then much spicier and pleasantly woody on the palate, intense at the start but then flattening out quickly. Still complex and delicious. Slightly salty with vanilla and nutmeg. Clearly toasted with a pleasant acidity, some raisin and currant again.Krass!

... Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums were aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.

Blind tasting: beautiful, tropically matured column profile with lots of caramel, chocolate and wood, but ultimately not quite as convincing and which I can't quite place. Surprisingly sweet on the palate. Super tasty but not top class. Thanks to Jakob

A Velier Demerara distilled on the Savalle column, who can remain objective? Not me.A beautiful nose, you can spend an entire evening with it. Elegant, balanced, cedar as usually only the French can do. Yes, quite similar to a very good Agricole. Wonderful in the mouth as well. Mmmmm, very good. Middleweight, elegant.I would love a bottle, but alas....

Review by Skyfly

did I mention that Demerara Rules? What a rum! Intense, depth, heavy. The spread between the different aromas and the complexity is amazing. Other than the Port Mourants or Enmores with the taste of dried plums there is a very nice flavor of nuts and a subtle sweetness. Great stuff.

Excellent rum very round on toasted oak, coconut, caramel, chocolate with a little orange and tobacco.🤤

Amazing Demerara, thanks to RumTaster for the sample. Really round profile, with a perfect integration of wood, caramel and sundried grapes. The palate is pretty consistent, with cappuccino and chocolate in addition. Another great pick from Gargano

Einfach toll.

Tasting again and increasing my score. Ultra harmonic and smooth drink. Alcohol well integrated. Herbal, almonds, tobacco, wood, great balance. I like it.
Review by daiquiri_lab
Rich. Somewhat similar to FSQ with some different accent notes. Quite round, medium thick/oily, and gives a big truck full of caramel and coconuts on the palate. Just a touch of water really brought it into resolution for me, cutting through the otherwise rather strong burn on the finish. It's a very nice rum though I think it cannot really justify its current price given the rather standard nature of its notes.
Review by Pavel Ungr, RumRock
Svěžejší a elegantnější Demerara z Guyany s 56 %. Ve vůni i chuti čaj, mléčná krémovost, tropické ovoce, kokos, třtinový sirup, med, pomeranč, káva, slad a lehký dub. Středně plné tělo, dobrá pitelnost, čistý a kultivovaný projev.
Review by Buddudharma
Review by Bob the Drunker
Tried a sample long time ago, still remember the fantastic and explosive polish oil and fruity drove nose, amazing on the punch On the palate is also explosive with massive dark fruits, like its brothers from PM 93, 97, great stuff
