Velier Caroni 5th Employees Deodat „Breeze“ Manmohan HTR 1996
The surprise here is how sweet it drinks for a Caroni. The classic tar, rubber and "car workshop" notes are all present, but a big natural caramel sweetness sits on top, with vanilla, leather and a minty finish. Several tasters call it rounder and more balanced than its 1996 siblings. At 66.7% it needs a long time open — don't rush it.
The community says- Big natural caramel
- Classic tar/rubber funk
- Oily, dense texture

How does Velier Caroni 5th Employees Deodat „Breeze“ Manmohan HTR 1996 taste?
Aggregated from 72 community reviews.
Sweet, tarry Caroni for patient sippers A loved 1996 Caroni that leans unusually sweet and caramel-heavy. Most find it elegant and well-integrated for the ABV; a few say the sweetness costs it depth, or the wood runs too hot.

Great Caroni and one of the best 96 I've ever had in the glass. Absolutely cool matured, in the nose a dream and in the mouth with the best I've ever had. Outstanding
Review by Guji Guji
2 drops of water, 2 hours in a glencairn glass before the tasting. It's a beautiful Caroni, very elegant and deep. The best bottle of the 5th employees release. Gorgeous!

Beim zweiten Versuch gefällt er mir viel besser. Sehr intensiv und würzig. Toller Caroni.

Šestý zaměstnanec večere. Ve vůni jde první lešťenka, později sladké tóny karamelu. V chuti je to komolexní zážitek, dřevo, kůže, leštěnka, espresso, v ústech tvoří olejnatý a hutný dojem. Závěr je dlouhý a člověk opravdu nechce, aby zkončil. Nádhera.

More balanced than the Roop

Superbe caroni 1996.

I'm not surprised anymore by Caroni releases by Velier. This 1996 is magnificent with round notes perfectly balancing typical Caroni profile. Astonashing rum 😍

Wonderfully solid nose, polish and wood maturity en masse. With a little water, liquid Fishermans Friends. Not very dirty. Oily and dense in the mouth. A chemical factory with caramel. Spicy and complex. Then wood and caramel on the finish. A great Caroni. Tar and the burnt notes, however, very restrained. More of this please...

Wow, this one was very different and kind of sweet compared to all other Caroni's I have tried! The nose is wonderful with the typical tar and rubber notes with roasted oak on top. Fruits, and vanilla follows and I also get a bit of nuts in there. The palate is very well balanced when thinking about the ABV. Complex, sweet and oily with roasted oak topped with some rubber and tar. Fruit, vanilla, leather and caramel make the palate complete. Pretty sweet for a Caroni, but I know they would never add anything to sweeten the rum. The finish is long and has roasted oak, rubber and caramel to it. The caramel is very present in this particular release.

Review by Schleepie

Tar, salty caramel, overripe peach, rosé water on nose. It needs to open up as well for a long time, don’t rush it, take your time. Of course it’s heavy, for sure it’s bold and concentrated. But there are something floral and minty on background…

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Already on the rather tart side, yet the vintage-typical profile of the 1996 Caronis is still recognizable.
Review by Arnaud Faverjon

On the nose, this Caroni shows restraint. In the mouth, however, it is already very pleasing. It is extremely sweet. Caramelllllll. If you didn't know that Luca Gargano would never add artificial sugar, well, you could almost question it here... After a bit of time in the glass, this rum softens. The alcohol is elegantly integrated. If the rum did not cost a small fortune, this Caroni would definitely go into my collection.
