... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Close to Full Proof, hardly less exquisite. Typical 1994 Caroni with lots of aromatic punch full of wood, spice, tar, rubber and subtle fruit - great complexity and inspiring quality.

Mechanical workshop markers with a frosty side, apple juice, pineapple, and tropical fruits. The palate is slightly watery at first, then everything opens up: mechanical workshop, apple juice, tropical fruits. The finish is long but shorter than expected with a noble bitterness that makes you want another pour. The weakest of the Caroni “hangar” series, less aromatic and a slightly watery start on the palate. Still, it remains a fantastic rum!

Great 1994, which seems noticeably tamer and more balanced compared to other older 1994 bottlings from Velier. However, compared to the 94 17y HTR FP, it loses a bit of complexity.

A great rum, perfectly balanced. For me in the right middle of tar and sweetness on the Caroni scale. It has a little bit of everything and hits the perfect balance. Some roasted aromas and full power despite the 55% here.

Once again a super Caroni from Velier. Great balance between sweetness, fruitiness, spices and barrel influence, with the wood and spices dominating. Despite the comparatively low percentages, it has plenty of power and can keep you busy for a while.

Wow, great 1994, woody, dirty with a great counterbalance of sweetness, really nice fruit and nut - there are even a few playful flowers. I really like the nose and it's there quite quickly. On the palate it's dirty roasty with burnt cocoa, coffee and fruit at the back - together with a slightly cooling menthol note. Not full proof but still really good.

#4445 03.11.2023 got some nice samples from a friend and though small they're still really good. Well rounded with very nice Caroni notes. Light fruit with some chocolate and nuts. The finish is long and warm with an earthy touch.

Schon in der Nase zeigt sich schnell die tropische Reife. Dazu kommen kühle Noten von Eukalyptus, Minze und Cassis, begleitet von Gummi, etwas Dreck und einer herrlichen tropischen Marmelade. Eine einladende Nase. Am Gaumen klassischer Caroni: warm, mit Fahrradschlauch, Leder, viel Teer und den bekannten Werkstattnoten. Trotz der markanten Aromatik bleibt der Rum dank der 55 % ausgesprochen zugänglich. Die tropischen Früchte sind schön eingebunden und verleihen dem Profil eine angenehme Balance. Im Vergleich zu anderen 1994ern wirkt diese Abfüllung insgesamt ausgewogener, ohne den typischen Charakter des Jahrgangs zu verlieren. Der Abgang leeeeicht kurz. Im Caroni-Ranking gehört diese Abfüllung für mich zu den ausgewogeneren Vertretern des Jahrgangs, behält aber die typisch kühlen Noten des 1994er-Profils bei. Gefällt mir extrem gut.

Another Caroni from the Hangar series. Not full proof, but still quite enjoyable. Normally, I'm a fan of the 1996 bottlings, but the 1994 can definitely hold its own here. I really liked it.

One of the old Velier Caronis that caught my attention. Why? Because of the "low" alcohol content! So it's quite accessible! But it still has a superb concentration and, at 18 years old, offers dark aromas of coffee, cocoa, leather, and tobacco that blend with the typical Caroni notes of tar and rubber. Behind all that, there are fruits floating on top! And the spices (pepper, chili, cloves) give even more strength to this palate. A beautiful complexity and for me one of the best Caronis.

A direct comparison between the Caroni HTR from 1992 and 1994. The 18-year-old is an elegant overall package of a Caroni rum. The typical Caroni notes come through very well here without being overpowering. Altogether somewhat rounder and more elegant than the 20-year-old.

When I got into the rum scene, this Caroni had a reputation for being rather bad, nobody would need him, they said. What an extremely false rumor 🤷🏻. This Caroni really has everything a good Caroni needs and hits the middle ground extremely well. It has unmistakable Caroni notes, but at the same time it also has a lot of sweet caramel, dried fruit and coconut in the aroma package. It is really extremely round, full, deep and with an enormous body. In the mouth, the dirty notes tend to dominate, with a lovely sweetness accompanying the rum, but also a little more roasted aromas in the finish than usual. The drinking strength is very dignified and pleasant and just right if you don't necessarily fancy the full proof power I really need a bottle!

a caroni to my liking. more balanced like the recent tastings I had of other caronis. Dried fruits, quite a presence of the influence of the cask, leather, a slight bitterness, caramel. And a bit of a menthol finish. Today I am fine with the caronis.

Initially very dirty, more so than 1992 for me. Benefits with time, still very dirty but also finer fruity notes become more apparent. Overall the industrial notes and dark chocolate prevail, but everything is very nicely integrated.

Další z perfektních velierových plnění caroni. Ve vůni velmi technické, guma, jablka a tropické ovoce. V chuti jsou dominantní garážové tóny doplněné podobně intenzivním jablkem. Závěr dlouhý, alkohol perfektně integrovaný. Nádhera.

Soft and balanced rum. It's good, not burning the mouth and the Caroni flavours are there. Finish is medium to long. Empty glass smells like burnt, olive and honey.

Velmi pěkné Caroni, hodně technických tónů ve vůni i chuti, dehet, guma, kůže, pečené věci. Hodně harmonický rum, skvěle integrovaný alkohol, všechno spolu krásně funguje. Pokud budete mít možnost ochutnat aspoň vzorek, určitě to udělejte.

Unfortunately i ffel like the water really got to this negatively. In the first moment of sipping, there is this kind of water taste, like when water has this smell, a bit metallic, a bit, jsut flowing water. At the end it is still great...
