Foursquare The Real McCoy 5 Years
Anyone easing into Barbados rum will find this a gentle, no-fuss place to start. Expect caramel, vanilla, oak and a bit of dried fruit, light on the tongue with a short finish. Plenty of members call it pleasant but plain — one flatly said "too light for my taste." Nice in a rum and coke, fine to sip, nothing that'll grab you neat.

How does Foursquare The Real McCoy 5 Years taste?
Aggregated from 58 community reviews.
Light, easygoing Barbados everyday sipper Most see a decent, honest everyday Bajan — caramel, vanilla and oak, on the dry side. The common gripe: it's light, generic, and the alcohol isn't fully integrated.

Woody/barrel, chocolate and a tiny bit of vanilla. The alcohol comes across as pungent. I would never purchase a bottle.

01.05.2019 Nice tasting with friends including my slow cooked pot roast. Colour Medium dark in colour. Nose Light, light wood, faint roasted, dried fruit, caramel, light floral, spice. Palate Light, sweet, light wood, dried fruit, light floral, faint pineapple, spice, light chocolate, light caramel. Finish Short to medium, light wood, sweet, light dried fruit, faint citrus, light chocolate, faint caramel. Extra note. Surprisingly good at the age and price tag.

My wife liked it more than I did. It was pretty strong straight. Mixed was far less so. I did not pick up a particular flavor one way or another, but whatever was there, wasn’t too bad.
Review by abaker-rum
A solid rum, good for cocktails ok for sipping. The nose gives off caramel, vanilla, and oak notes with a little banana. The rum is light on the tongue with caramel and vanilla as the primary taste. The finish is slightly better than the palate with vanilla, dried fruit, and barrel spices.

super round number! nice entry Barbados rum!

The nose is quite roasted. Hazelnuts and oak are most prominent. The palate is quite oaky. Hints of raw licorice and cocoa. On the dry side. The finish keeps the oak and some vanilla. It is quite short though. Overall, I am a little disappointed but this is the 40% abv version. I'd say the Doorly's 5 year old might be a better buy.

Un rhum simple.
Review by pavlix vipax
Stipkavejsie, interesting, longer, distinctly nuts and almonds, probably the longest stiplavost but we'll see, the second degu...aroma of almond butter and fine spirity, oak, in the taste simpler, subtle sweetness, but also still at 5 years old quite pungent, but I'm raising to 7.8m from 7.6

... Foursquare je destilerka z Barbadosu produkujici uzasne rumy ke kazdodennimu popijeni. Je to rum, ktery oceni zejmena rumari, kteri maji plne zuby cukru a hledaji jemny, nasladly rum plny kokosu, vanilky, cokolady a karamelu. Proste prijemne a nijak agresivni chute.
Review by FireChief
Udemærket, men ret gennemsnitlig.

Too light for my taste
Review by Ian Gilman
A good rum for mixing to provide a pretty classic baking spices and sweets note. If I’m reaching something in this style to sip, I’m going all the way to Foursquare ECA. This lacks to complexity of dark tobacco notes and highlights, like orange zest, that elevate Foursquare’s premium product. Still very nice and great value.

Bajan starter. Not bad, but lacks depth... meanwhile it feels like a step down compared to many other goodies
Review by Thomas_Bristow
It’s ok. Nothing special but a very bog standard Badian 5 year. Harmless but not very refined and a fairly generic. Would not bother buying again.
Review by Kieron Wood
This review maybe influenced by the fact that the Vegas selection of rum is appalling ... Even in the mirage at a place called the rhumabar it's pretty standard selection .. however back to the rum .. decent no's e on it of a dry rum that has hints of smokiness but not too overpowering ..
Review by Jindrich Strobl
Not disturbing but rather generic taste. Nothing significant.

Read full review →So, it perhaps goes with saying that it works really well mixed. A rum and coke with The Real McCoy 5 Year Old is very pleasant. It has a nice weight to it – its a bit bolder than Doorly’s 5 Year Old. More in keeping with Old Brigand, in...
