Longueteau GENESIS Collection 2017
Wet hay, cut grass and fresh sugarcane pour out of the glass, with citrus zest and a floral, almost licorice edge underneath. This is unaged Longueteau agricole at full 72% — and the wild part is how well the alcohol disappears. Most tasters barely feel the proof; give it 15-20 minutes and it blooms. Long, warm, spicy finish. A benchmark white for the style.

A natural cane which offers us fresh notes of citrus fruits (Limes / Orange), very vegetable (Hay / Medicinal herb), of peppers. This cane brings us its sugar just cooked, slightly thick as candied, with the side (Floral / Liquorice) we would have the impression to have a drink type cola at the end of mouth.the rum and also rather milky as a yoghurt. In short, it is a sugar cane which is sublimated with this brut de colonne, we manage to be as close as possible to this one it is very interesting and very good!

The cream of the whites quite simply. With the very recognizable longteau framework, it can be drunk without moderation.

Comparative tasting with RX1247 On the nose I wonder where the alcohol is here, there is no alcoholic sharpness at all! The alcohol can of course be heard, but it carries a lot of fruit and grassy aromas. In direct comparison, this has something "grubby" about it, like some Clairins. Paler on the palate than the nose led me to expect. Still intense, powerful but not as differentiated. When the just over 70% ABV slowly subsides in the finish, the aromas become much more pronounced again! A very good white rum that cuts a strong figure both neat and in intense cocktails. The 2015 vintage gets one point more from me because of the hint of sweetness. Both bottlings are very similar and exemplary examples of what rum matured exclusively in steel tanks can do.

This one really kicks a.. and I like it, A LOT. The proof actually helps enhance the flavours and I left it for 15 minutes before nosing and sipping. By then most flavours were already there. After 30 minutes it was at full bloom. The nose is truly Agricole with the vegetal, grassy and wet hay, almost like a meadow. There is also fruit and sugarcane. The palate is also a true Agricole, earthy with grass and wet hay again. The flavours are very intense, in a good way. Spices and floral notes complement the end. The finish is very, very long and warm with a vegetal note.

With the bottle half-empty, we return to the basics with this pure agricole, with its distinct Longueteau character, notably on the ultra-fresh, rather oily cane, with citrus fruits well present. It's lively but well-balanced, a little hot, but far from the 72-degree idea you might get from looking at the label. A real must-have. Aged versions must be crazy! I'll have to try it :)

Strawberry, fermented pineapple and and overripe kiwi on the nose, as well as a lot of fresh and buttery notes. amazingly mild! in the taste then also surprisingly mild and an explosion of grapefruit peel, mint, as well as apricot and hazelnut with a few hard to define herbs and violets. very complex and intense and alcohol wonderfully integrated for the strength. impressive!in the daiquiri he is not quite as well suited as I had hoped, therefore 2 points deduction.

A bomb, lots of herbaceous and after a while also fruity hints. Balanced and with well integrated alcohol. I consider it quite fresh and enveloping but still very different from aged products, indeed they should be split into two different categories in my humble opinion. It needs time to express itself at its best also in view of the high alcohol content, a real bomb but it did not bother me too much, on the contrary I found it very firm in character but not aggressive. Long finish, indeed very long even in view of the alcohol content. (PS: the rating, like the impressions, are purely personal).
