English Harbour High Congener Series 2014
Call it "high congener" and you'd expect a wild ester bomb — but this drinks softer and sweeter than the name suggests. Think chocolate brownie, cocoa, vanilla and coconut, with a creamy body more than raw funk. A lot of tasters blind-guess it as Barbados or Foursquare. very very tasty successor to the velier Antigua 2012. not quite as complex, but almost more drinkable, much darker & spicier, less fruity and an incredibly cool dark chocolate brownie/cookie note. Very cool stuff, especially for the money!🇦🇬🙏💥❤️👌🏽 If it was a little less biting it could almost get over 9.0 just because of the fair price!

Leckerer Rum, schöne Kokos-Schoko-Noten die an Belize erinnern. Trifft zwar nicht ganz meinen persönlichen Geschmack aber der Alkohol ist hervorragend integriert, das Mundgefühl angenehm dick und der Rum definitiv fair bepreist.

A great rum from ADL. I think it’s great that they now release a high congener rum themselves so that we now don’t need to buy overpriced Velier releases. It’s not possible, at least for me, to distinguish the Velier English Harbour from this one. GREAT RUM !!!

The first few times I tried this rum, I couldn't do much with it. Nevertheless, I was amazed by the mild 64%! Characterized by caramel, chocolate, roasted nutty and fruit, you should give it a few minutes and add some water so that the solvent note can evaporate. In the mouth it is initially spicy and bitter chocolatey, but hardly any fruit. Sweet caramel, chocolate and roasted aromas come through in the finish. The fruit, I mean mainly banana and coconut, also reappears. Delicious and very good value for money. Hope to see another release from Antigua -> YES!!!

Reminiscent of a Foursquare-Belize blend on the nose and palate. A little wilder and edgier than the Antigua from Velier. I like it very much. Top value for money!

Stejně jako před chvílí u FS pro Warehouse#1 i teď u EH popíjím poslední kapky z ulitého vzorku. Podobnost ve vuniz s FS, ale navíc přidaná jakási zemitá prašnost. Chuťově hozené více ke karamelu a pepři, tím pádem ostřejší. Silné ale dobré pití.

Thanks to Serge for this Sample! Really a great rum! Good complexity, full body, the barrel and alcohol is integrated as well too. The finish is quite long and overwehlemed of dark chocolate I found it similar to some belize bottlings!

Despite having no added sugar it’s really really sweet and thick. It would have totally had me a couple of years back when I was into the sweet stuff and by then landed a really high score. After steering away from sweetness I now probably need to rethink the sweetness aspect of it as I still think it’s quite good. Question is should new me or old me give the verdict? Let’s mix em and round up the result…. A few times in on this bottle now and still the same conflicting feelings about it. And even more times in, still the same... And again and again…

Ein durchaus scharfer Geruch kommt einem entgegen. Schmeckt dann viel weicher mit gut eingebundem Alkohol. Ein unglaublich schokoladiges Erlebnis. Dann kommt noch etwas Kokosnuss dazu. Nicht super komplex, aber ein super Rum für kalte Tage mit tollem PLV.

Anlässlich der zweiten Veröffentlichung der high congener series mal zur Verkostung hier im Glas. War damals ein echter Blindkauf. Für den Release Preis zwischen 60-70€ bekommt man hier einfach sehr viel an Geschmack. Wir befinden uns irgendwo zwischen Barbados Foursquare und Belize. Schöne intensive Aromen. Bisschen zu alkoholisch aber sehr Gutes Release

Nächstes Sample von nem Kumpel. Jetzt wird es interessant. Hier hat man Vanille, Karamell und dunkle Schokolade in Nase und Gaumen. Die 63,8% ABV kommen durch, sind aber nicht krass zu spüren. Empfehlung von mir.

Très bon rum. Cela ressemble pas mal à un foursquare 2007 mais avec moins de solvants. Un petit peu moins complexe en bouche aussi. Mais très gourmand et très agréable.

So nachdem ich den 5 jährigen schon des öfteren verkostet habe durfte nun dieser hier ran. Die 63% verleihen dem Rum eine ordentliche Kraft und einen langen warmen Abgang. Am Ende des Tages hatte ich mir aber etwas mehr Komplexität und Wiedererkennungswert gewünscht. Preis Leistung ist denke ich in Ordnung.

Ich wollte diesen Rum schon abschreiben. Habe auf Hinweis von Dominic etwas Wasser dazu getan, das hat sehr geholfen. Danke! Dennoch bleibt es trotz High Congeners und Fassstärke ein sehr leichter Rum. Die Leitmotive der Nase: Milchschokolade, Karamell und Vanille ziehen sich durch. Dazu kommt etwas Frucht (Aprikose) und eine leichte herbe Kaffeenote. Das ist sehr angenehm, aber auch etwas langweilig. Dafür ist die Alkoholintegration fantastisch. Das Highlight für mich ist der sanfte und cremige Abgang, bei dem man noch minutenlang das Gefühl schmelzenden Schokolade im Mund behält.

The nose is initially dominated by menthol. A splash of water releases vanilla sugar. In the taste it shifts to yellow raisin, but some glue as well. When adding water, the glue disappears and is replaced by more fruitiness (peach, a little banana). In the finish also plum.

Sehr ausgewogen. Am Anfang ein wenig scharf in Nase und Geschmack. Kurz stehen lassen. Danach erinnert er an Rum aus Barbados, aber wenig süß und stattdessen würziger. Der Abgang sehr trocken. Angenehm, aber der Alkohol könnte besser eingebunden sein.

At the price tag this is a very nice rum. The nose is fruity and full of spices topped with some barrel and caramel in the back. The palate is heavy yet sweet with fruit and spice. In the back i get chocolate and oak. The finish is medium to long with vanilla, cocoa and nice toasted oak.

Kleine Punktkorrektur nach oben. Habe den Rum jetzt doch mwhr zu schätzen gelernt. War mein erster Antigua Rum und ich hätte ihn blind nach Barbados getippt. Mit ein paar Tropfen Wasser wir er aber dann doch etwas interessanter. Schön cremig und Alkohol recht gut integriert.

Nose: spicy. Pinewood. Weird funk. Woodspices are very prominent here. Covered with a layer of glue. No big things happening here...yet. Taste: pleasant molasses sweetness. Quite hot. Glue. Toffee. Caramel. Reminds me a bit of Foursquare/Travellers here and there. More (pine)wood(spices). Some fudge. Light coconut. Syropy. Not high ester as most rums but it sort of shines through. Interesting juice. Promising distillery. Gotta love em hot tough.

Bei weitem kein schlechter Rum, doch gefällt mir das zweite Release deutlich besser. Dieser ist fruchtig und leicht. Mir fehlt es, im Vergleich zum Zweiten, an Komplexität. Etwas holzig kommt er rüber.

Sehr blumig-fruchtig in der Nase, aber zunächst muss der beißende Alkohol überwunden werden. Dann hab ich Aprikose mit Papaya und ein Hauch Kokos. Er bekommt etwas metallisches, dass ins Karamellige übergeht. Feine Würze mit Vanille. Am Gaumen intensiv. Es kommt gleich etwas bitter-salzig-leicht süßliches. Eine metallische Frische, die auch von Limettenschale kommen kann. Gleichzeitig würzig-pfeffrig und herb-karamellig, leicht getoastet. Evtl. etwas sehr dunkle Schokolade. Im Abgang bitter metallisch. Einer der besseren Antiguas. Ich brauche noch etwas Zeit um richtig warm zu werden.

Lange gesucht und endlich noch eine Flasche gefunden. Hat sich gelohnt denn die Erinnerung war richtig: Was ein geiles Teil, volle Kanne Frucht und Gewürze. Im Mund dann perfekt eingebundener Alkohol, fruchtig schokoladig mit langem holzigem Abgang. Bin ich froh noch ne halbe Flasche angegriffen zu haben.

Spannender Rum, der zurecht mehr Aufmerksamkeit erhalten hat, als andere Abfüllungen aus der Reihe. Sowohl in der Nase als auch am Gaumen bietet er schöne schokoladige Aromen, die an Kakao, Zartbitterschokolade oder dunkle Cookies erinnern. Die Congeners liefern einen vollmundigen Geschmack, der mich an andere alkoholische Getränke aus Trauben oder beispielsweise einen Madeira-Rum erinnert. Wirklich tolle Qualität zu fairem Preis!

Ein insgesamt sehr schokoladiges Profil mit viel Vanille, Marzipan und Kokosnuss. Von der Nase würde man etwas übertrieben süßes erwarten die Karamellnoten sind im Geschmack dann aber erstaunlich gut integriert. Weniger gut ist der Alkohol integriert was dem Rum eine bessere Bewertung kostet.

Tohle je opravdu moc hezké. Pěkná čokoládová vůně, s náznakem esterů a hromadou koření. V chuti dominuje kakao, kokos a opět koření. Zaujme téměř dokonale integrovaný alkohol a přihlédnu-li na poměr cena/výkon je to velká paráda.

Parallelverkostung der beiden Destillerieabfüllungen. Ich der Nase gefällt mir der 2020er schonmal besser,er wirkt frischer und fruchtiger, dazu feine Milchschokolade mit Backgewürzen und Bratapfel Aroma. Der Gaumen ist dafür etwas grantiger, ruppiger, der Alkohol noch nicht ganz so gut integriert. Viele dunkle Aromen vom Fass. Der Abgang ist recht lang und trocken mit viel Tannine und Röstaromen. Im Vergleich sind beide gleich auf, der 2020er liegt an der Nase vorn, während am Gaumen der 2023er das Rennen macht.

Die Nase Recht würzig. Geröstete Pflaumen würde ich sagen. Am Gaumen ne ganz schön cremige Vanille. Hat definitiv ein schönes aroma. Der Abgang könnte etwas länger stehen bleiben. Alles in allem schmackhaft.

#keinprofi Bei diesem Rum spürt man die Prozente deutlich, ohne dass sie unangenehm hervorstechen. Seine Aromatik umfasst süße Töne von Vanille und Karamell, hat aber auch ein estriges Stechen. Das Mundgefühl ist angenehm warm. Hardwarm ist er besonders angenehm zu trinken.

Ein wahrer PLV Kracher, für den doch hohen Alkoholgehalt lässt er sich angenehm sippen. Ein cooler Nachfolger des Veliers Antigua...die Kokosnuss mag ich irgendwie am Gaumen. Ich hoffe es erreicht uns noch einiges aus dieser Destille.
