Albert Michler Distillery Old Bert Jamaican Spiced (Recipe No. 120)
One member nailed it: "sugar like in hell and also infused like hell." That's the whole story here. Under all that spice and syrup you can still catch the Jamaican fingerprint — banana, pineapple, vanilla, a whiff of rubber ester — but heavy sweetness buries most of the roast and oak. Tastes like a chocolate-liqueur version of rum, with a short, soft finish.
The community says- Rich, oily body
- Overly sweet
- Short, weak finish

How does Albert Michler Distillery Old Bert Jamaican Spiced (Recipe No. 120) taste?
Aggregated from 33 community reviews.
Very sweet, spiced, more dessert than rum Loved by sweet-tooth drinkers, dismissed by purists. Nearly everyone agrees it's very sweet and spiced — closer to a dessert liqueur than a serious sipper, but genuinely enjoyable with a cigar.

The smell is really good, even better, than the taste. Taste is surprising, but very rich and after 3 licks I have found out, that I really like it. Adequate softness as I like.

Well as a Jamaican elixir, this is a unusual strange combination On palate the sweetness is too overwhelming for me, so I could barely focus on other notes. Finish was too mild and insignificant. This is definitely not my cup of tea.

Mild, sweet, sweet, round ... almost a chocolate liqueur and yet Jamaican - exciting 04.2024 First impression: Sweet rum Nose: sweet banana, pineapple, vanilla, mango, lemon and a little rubber/ester Palate: again, lots of sweetness that completely masks any roasted/smoky/woody flavors, vanilla Finish: short, sweet, weak Conclusion: to enhance desserts, as a liqueur or as a substitute for Jamaican rum creams (e.g. Wray & Nephew, Worthy Park, Rum Bar)

Off-putting. If it weren't for the finish, which somehow tastes like grass clippings, this spirit would have completely failed for me.

Retasted at friends party. My initial score was way too high. Nothing wrong with the 👅 and I agree with ehat I said earlier but boy it is sweet. Overly sweet so I am pulling 7 points down. Original review: Have you ever wondered how would a great Jamaican rum taste like if you add sugar? Weird question I know but if you did, than Old Bert is the answer. You can definitely tell that this is a Jamaican rum although well hidden behind a lots of sugar and spices. Same goes for the taste. If you are not the purist and you enjoy something sweet in world of rum from time to time instead of cakes, sweets etc, (I know that I do) you will love this one. It is really sweet but you can still feel that characteristic Jam taste but somehow enhanced by all that sugar and spices and its great with cigar.
