Hampden Kill Devil (The Whisky Barrel) <>H 2001
Sip this one neat, with a drop of water to open it up — at 61.2% it needs it. You get the Hampden signature: varnish and acetone esters, a basket of ripe pineapple and yellow fruit, plus salted peanuts and a touch of pastry from continental aging. Oily and full in the mouth, with some spice and roasty notes. A rounder, gentler <>H than most.

Nice rum, mild, aged, with Hampden profile, but the taste is not so good compared to f.e. Old Brothers .. Hampden, legendarni jamajska destilerka, ktera krome rumu produkuje take alkohol do parfemu. Ve vsech rumech z teto destilerky ucitite divoke estery, po kterych cely vas organizmus nasakne vuni zluteho tropickeho ovoce - manga, papaji, anansu, broskvi. Jeden z rumu, ktere "must try before die"

A solid Hampden, more on the round and pleasing side, which is quite good for now. However, it is not necessarily what I expect from Hampden. Also, this is my first Hampden of the mark . In the nose with neat esters, fruity, tropical fruits and citrus, but also alcoholic pungent, sour with solvent. A bit lacking in spice here and unfortunately the nose doesn't pick me up as much overall. In the mouth then very oily, round and sweet. Esters are not as strong as expected, spice is also somewhat lacking here. Here I lack something the intensity and that certain something

Delicious Hampden with an awesome cherry note. Not quite as aggressive in the esters, yet creamy and full-bodied

It's not all doom and gloom on this Hampden. It's quite well made, with a nice fruit compote, pineapple, yellow fruit and citrus. A hint of spice too. It's not the best H I've ever tasted, but it's not bad.

Another great continentally aged Hampden. All the usual notes are here: a basket of ripe tropicale fruit (ananas above all), esters (varnish, acetone) and pastry, plus the salted peanuts that usually pop up when the liquid did not age in the tropics. A really pleasant dram

Fairly round <>H, but a little too bitter and roasty for me.

Nose: Ester and varnish notes paired with wonderful fruit aromas of tropical fruits. Palate: Intense spice complementing the nose and rusty and meaty flavors. The rum neatly coats the palate with fur and is full-bodied.Finish: Spicy, esters, smoke flavors. Conclusion: This is why you appreciate Hampden.

Read full review →You taste more of the fruity notes throughout. This is a complex rum and one which definitely benefits from a drop or two of water. In my opinion all Cask Strength rum should at least be tried at a lower ABV. Some people over estimate how good their palate is...
