Diamond & Port Mourant El Dorado Rare Collection <PM> SVW 2001
The surprise here is how much lime and banana sneak into a rum this dark and spicy. It's a Port Mourant/Diamond blend from 2001, 16 years old at cask strength — wet wood, licorice, anise and green apple up front, with mocha, leather, tobacco and dark chocolate on the palate. Oily and warm, with the Diamond adding a caramel sweetness that rounds off PM's herbal, bitter edge.
The community says- Complex and layered
- Great PM/Diamond balance
- Bitter, tannic edge

How does Diamond & Port Mourant El Dorado Rare Collection <PM> SVW 2001 taste?
Aggregated from 64 community reviews.
Dark, spicy Demerara blend, PM-led Most tasters love how PM and Diamond play off each other — herbal and dark, yet rounder than a pure PM. A few felt it drifts in different directions and prefer the Albion or Skeldon.

First dominates PM - licorice, green apple, anise, oak and strong mocha. If you let him breathe, comes the SVW portion with caramel and some coconut. Then a nice lovely perfume note at the end. Very complex, balanced, interesting, alcohol barely noticeable.Warm, full-bodied and oily in the mouth. Very good!Epic finish.Great tropical ripened Demerara!!! But I must confess that the 1996 Enmore or the Albion excite me a notch more. 🥲 For PM fans a must.

A highlight in the El Dorado Rare Collection. Pleasant sweetness thanks to the Diamond profile from tropical aging, combined with the rather dry notes of the Port Mourant style – it fits together excellently. Holds up very well against the Velier releases – and maybe even a bit more. Very good.

26.10.2025 Part 2 / Evening Session Today we have an El Dorado Rare Cask online tasting and I've been looking forward to it. I will keep the score and just enjoy the rums and I have all of them on my shelves as well. ---------------- Yet another great rum from El Dorado. They have mastered to make yet another masterpiece from Guyana!

Strong, very aromatic blend, in which, according to my impression, the PM portion predominates, especially on the nose, which I like quite a bit. Really solid rum, full of character, but can not hold a candle to the AN and SWR of El Dorado. Update 2022-11-28: First impression fully confirmed at second tasting.

On the nose rather PM with hints of round Diamond aromas, in the mouth rather Diamond with PM spices. Overall, a great rum that I like more than a pure PM, especially on the nose, as it seems more accessible and rounder. Mint is dominant on the palate, also very bitter, dry and earthy. Heavy barrel flavors, musty earth, roasty coffee, all sorts of spice and some fruit. Reminds me a little of one or two Jamaican representatives (WP or Hampden).

A great blend where PM and Diamond match perfectly! The PM comes out dark and oily right away where it keeps the main part of this rum and the Diamond helps balance everything! Nice herbal part that helps to balance! A great rum!

Summary of the nose: „enhanced PM“ 😁 To me PM is clearly dominating, but enriched by the Diamond component adding some more fruity notes and complexity to the mix.

Very good overall balance. It is spicy, complex, concentrated aromas, all very harmonious and coherently integrated. Deep flavor profile with good tropical maturity. I liked it very much. The rum scores particularly well with me at the end.

I've been wanting to test it for a while. It is very good. On the nose, the dying port reigns supreme with its wet wood and doesn't let the diamond show its nose too much... In the mouth, more greediness than expected, the Prune and the chocolate are there, with a whole dose of spices. For me it remains however much less nice than the top trio: Sheldon/diamond CBH/Albion. First of all because it goes a bit in all directions, and it is less pleasant to taste, simply.

On the nose, licorice, tobacco, mint, aniseed... Plums, orange and green apple. Very spicy... It drops slightly on the palate First some sweetness followed by bitter notes, leather wood mint some pencil.... some plum and chocolate. Fruitiness is rather less to be found, rather dark heavy and spicy are the strengths of this blend.

A successful blend with a focus on PM, I find it very balanced and complex! Wonderful for a relaxed evening

Beautiful blend. Not suitable for beginners. Very oily consistency.
Review by Skyfly
For me, this is a first-class bottling, especially on the palate. I've rarely had such a broad spectrum of flavors, so hopefully I'll be able to get hold of another bottle. The alcohol is absolutely perfectly integrated!

Tasted alongside the 1995 Velier. A much more consensual nose where cask and sweetness dominate. Tropical and yellow fruits, citrus fruits are not far away. Fresh tobacco and molasses add complexity. The first palate is full and aromatic, then a dip forms and the aromas disappear, then reappear, with a long, savory finish marked by oak and woody bitterness. A very different rum from Velier 1995, easier but clearly less spirited.
