Rum Shark Hampden 2005
Sipped neat is where this 15-year Hampden lives — 69% but so well-buried that one taster guessed 50% blind. Expect banana bread, dark chocolate, rum-soaked raisins, toffee and a big wave of oak from the tropical aging. Ester funk is there but softer than usual; a couple of tasters actually missed Hampden's usual bright freshness. Long, dry, warm finish.

How does Rum Shark Hampden 2005 taste?
Aggregated from 28 community reviews.
Wood-forward tropical Hampden, funk dialed back Many call it their best Hampden — funky, fruity and wood-heavy with a "smooooth" finish that hides the strength. A few miss the classic Hampden freshness and find it a touch heavy.

The nose is awesome and extremely complex. English Breakfast tea meets banana puree, prune and neat wood with some dark chocolate and toffee. For 69% very harmonious.Taste then an absolute explosion of fruit, spice and beautiful intense wood tones, if the thing is not minimum 80% tropical matured I do not know. Very intense after banana bread with dark chocolate coating, toasted coconut chips, rum raisins, roasted almonds, leather and honey, prune and date, allspice and dark caramel. Grandiose and incredibly tasty and drinkable despite 69%!!!Like tipping st. Lucia, foursquare and 94 New Yarmouth together. Really cool.

29.10.2022 whisky & Rum Festival, nice event with a few friends and a few of our own bottles. Another really nice Jamaican rum. Intense and fruity with nice ester, chocolate and caramel. Very long, medium dry and warm finish with nice fruit.

Not much ester, but plenty of woody notes. Tastes almost tropical matured!
Review by Jakob
Seems a bit dull overall, the classic freshness of Hampden is somewhat lacking for me. Nevertheless, quaffable with heavy wood notes and nicely balanced sweetness.
