Clément VSOP
Anyone curious about aged rhum agricole without diving into the deep end will find their footing here. Expect grassy sugarcane, apple and citrus up front, then oak, pepper and a smoky, slightly dry finish. Several tasters call it a great first agricole. A few wish the barrel didn't mute the cane's character, and one or two find it thin and a bit watery.

How does Clément VSOP taste?
Aggregated from 176 community reviews.
Easy, grassy first aged agricole Most people treat this as the textbook entry to VSOP agricole: fruity, grassy, lightly smoky and easy to drink. The catch is it plays it safe — pleasant but not distinctive, and a little thin for some.

This is a really good agricole. With all the classic facets of an agricole. Pleasant to drink. I enjoyed this one after a delicious meal in Padova🤌🏻

A decent entry level aged agricole, if not a little bland. The barrel integration is interesting, adding some nice spice and oakiness, but I think it muffles too much of the character that Clement’s unaged distillate has going for it.

Overall an typical AOC Agricole for its age thats not especially complex or characterful. The nose is fruity and smoky with aromas of nuts, oak and bourbon. At the palate the aromas comes back as flavors.

30.08.2025 Retasting at the German Rum Fest. ------------ What I like most about this release is the warmth on the palate and the smoky wood. Lightly dry and you're not in doubt that you're having an Agricole 😊

Una versione un pelo migliore del VO con i tipici sentori di vegetali, legno giovane leggermente tostato, frutta secca, canna e un po' di cognac

7,7:On the nose, it is light, the first impression is like we scent Islay whisky, but just for short, because then agricole steps in with Martinique volcanique notes. Fruits (grape and prune) and nuts (hazelnut and almond) are the omnipresent on this nose, when aired a bit. Caramel is also here, as some herbal, flowery and woody notes. Becomes dry, some roastedness is here. 7,7:On the palate, there is also fruity, there is grapefruit, and dry with some honey, agricole is mainstay, with Martinique volcanique notes and is flowery, perfumed. A hint of pepper makes some presence, as saltiness and wood. Nicely round and balanced, with minimal acidity. Nice chocolate smokiness is felt when the rum is well rested. As well we could find some undertones as resin, juniper and licorice. 7,6:The finish is medium, a bit thin and dry, pepper spicy with dried fruits... Upgraded to 7.7...from 7,4 Edit:6.3.26, 22.6.26

Very good VSOP. Smooth and floral.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A pleasant permanent range rum, offering a delicately woody, slightly vanilla nose, followed by cinnamon, a smoky edge and dried fruits (grapes). Sugar cane and a touch of caramel follow. Simple and effective. On the palate, sugar cane returns with agricultural and herbaceous notes, followed by spicy wood, tobacco, walnuts and dried fruit to balance out the dry but relatively mild profile. The finish, of decent length, leaves the imprint of wood, smoky notes and spices, with a slightly perceptible vegetal influence. A most typical agricultural rum, with no apparent flaws but no extravagance either. A good introduction to rum from the French West Indies.

Tasted this at the Whisky & Rum festival, 27th of october 2023 in Copenhagen. The cane-juice is really prevalent in the nose here, and I got some notes of fruit and wood as well. Would be a good entry into agricole rums

My first VSOP Agricole, so that I can make a judgment about this origin in general. In any case, the taste was very spicy and woody, rather dry. No vanilla, no caramel. Rather short finish.

Long finish. Very vegetale. Strong flavor.

Good Agricole, but the alcohol is not so well integrated despite the dilution. The finish is quite astringent.
Review by Tim
On the nose still very round with caramel, fruit and smoky wood. In the mouth there is then a rugged transition to sharp vegetal notes and dry spicy wood. The finish, which continues to be dry, features spicy, slightly sweet vegetal notes, always accompanied by smoke. Certainly a good rum if you like this bouquet.
Review by Lukas Jäger
Solid entry-level agricole or simply an easy sipper. Lots of citrus fruits that play around a lean Agricole base note.
Review by Skyfly
Alkohol gut eingebunden

It just doesn’t work for me. The nose is really rather pleasant, balanced with sugarcane some herbal elements. On the mouth it doesn’t deliver, light spice and a lot of herbal and grass notes that are exemplified in the finish. It has a real dry and herbal tone that is the overriding elements notes of the rum. It’s a bit brash as well and feels like it is on the young side

very pleasant for a VSOP.
Review by Godspeed
The mainstream standard-holder for VSOP agricoles. It is a recommended expression but there’s way better out there to be had. But, it’s kind of the agricole I’d have hoped to have had as my first taste because it’s such a neutral yet good example of the style sitting smack in the middle of the average age ranges. A great introduction to the world of rhum agricole.

One of the better standard agricoles for me. It is a bit alcoholic but not overly so. Still has some nice complexity and really is fun. This is rum you hope to be served in a non rum bar and be happy for the evening
