CDI Ten Cane Trinidad (Ping 15) 2009

One reviewer spends hours on a single dram of this, and you get why. Raspberry and red fruit lead, wrapped in loads of cask, sandalwood, cinnamon and baking spice, with a dry, faintly bitter edge that keeps it serious. At 61.7% it hits hard neat — give it 15 minutes and a few drops of water and the fruit and spice unfold. Not an easy sipper, and that's the point.

finally the highly praised Ping 15 in the glass (many thanks to Eugen!). The red fruits are there, but not as intense as in the 2008s, but very round and rather sweet towards raspberries / blackberries and cream candy. After some standing time, I also imagine Fanta / orange soda. Toasted barrel, caramel and mocha on the palate. The Ping 15 knows how to please, just by its balance!

This one has to be rested for at least 15 minutes to release its full potential. A masterpiece from the now closed Ten Cane Destillery. The wonderful nose is a perfect match to the palate and out of this world. I wonder why this destillery closed because they know how to make rum..... Darn..... I'd say the price is extremely low compared to the quality of this rum.

Veilchen. Herbe Süße von Ahornsirup und karamellisiertem Zucker. Würzig-holzig ist er auch. Die Nase gefällt mir sehr gut. Intensiv fruchtig-würzig am Gaumen. Wieder Traube, deutlich Himbeere und etwas leicht bittere Zitrusschale. Auch wieder herb-süß wie Ahornsirup. Hinzu kommt etwas grünes, grasiges, vielleicht etwas Olive. Tolles Geschmacksprofil. Gefällt.

As expected, it adds a good bit to the drinking strength, but not as much as I would have expected.raspberry, sandalwood, cinnamon, rose, raisin, clove, maple syrup and lots of barrel and wood on the nose.On the palate, the raspberry continues, plus furry mango, lots of barrel, lots of cinnamon, lots of baking spice, some rose and in the finish neat tannins and it becomes discreetly astringent. at the end, the mango and rose comes through again nicely. tasty but not perfect!

Exceptional rum, which is a much try, if you like other Ten Cane bottlings - this one is by far the best there is, and considering the secondary market price for the Wild Series Ten Cane bottling, this is a steal. Very complex and well integrated alcohol with a mild burning on the tongue. When I pour a dram of this, I can use hours to consume it, because it's such an interesting rum to "explore" and see how it evolves. There is slightly bitternes over it, which I dislike and therefore it isn't a 90+ rum for me.
