Kingsbury Port Mourant 1974

Longtime Port Mourant fans and collectors chasing old Demerara are the people this is really for. It's a 44-year 1974 PM at just 46%, and that low strength is the whole story: a rich nose of marzipan, black tea, leather, pencil shavings and dried prunes that most tasters found the thin, dry, tannic palate couldn't quite match. Woody, bitter, almond-driven, with a long dry finish.

The community says
  • Rich marzipan nose
  • Old Demerara character
  • Thin on palate

The look inside the bottle

How does Kingsbury Port Mourant 1974 taste?

Aggregated from 25 community reviews.

Gorgeous nose, thin dry PM palate People love the nose — marzipan, tea, dried fruit, leather — but agree the palate turns thin and dry, held back by the low ABV. A lovely, atypical PM that slightly underdelivers on the tongue.

Perfect for

Port Mourant devotees and collectors of old Demerara

Less suitable for

05.03.2022 The yearly event by whisky.dk and one I'll continue to go to. This time with some of my colleagues of which some where whisky drinkers. They got an introduction to Jamaica and they liked it. Notes. This one was hidden at one of our favourite vendors and as soon as I arrived it was pulled out and we got a really good discount on the sample. Lots of wood in the profile without it being too dominant. Light fruit and spices and an oily warm palate. Long and lasting finish with light licorice. Love the marzipan note.

A rather atypical PM, with lots of marzipan, wood and honey. Had I blindly not necessarily typed Guyana, almost Rockley.

A very light PM, with a rather light texture and light body. Rather lightly fruity, floral, herbaceous and dryly woody. It shows in which direction PM from the 70s is heading, but this profile does not meet the expectations of a connoisseur
