Rum Nation Diamond Small Batch Rare Rums SV 2005

Peat, smoke and charred oak lead here, more than any tropical fruit. This is a 2005 Diamond aged 15 years and finished into full-on peated-whisky territory at 59%. Dried prunes, tobacco, leather and dark chocolate sit underneath. One taster called the whiskey notes "very present" — and that's the whole story: it drinks like an Islay dram wearing rum's clothes.

Smoky, peated Diamond that drinks like Islay People are split hard. Fans love the peat, smoke and dark-fruit depth; plenty find the whisky finish too dominant and no longer very rum-like. Give it air.

8,6:On the nose, the opening impression is smoky, woody, fruity with dried fruits and citrus, very whisky like, with tobacco and leather, a bit peated. On aeration, spices arise, a molasses is dark with licorice, herbaceous, the wood charred with caramelized burnt sugar, nuts, fruit cake, toffee and coffee. New wave of fruits is out with dates, prunes and raisins. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is smoky, peated, the reason is peated whisky finish, the wood is charred with caramel, chocolate, nuts, later nougat, leather, spicy with nutmeg, a bit salty, as we taste candied salted caramel. The fruits are dried with prunes, dates and raisins. After resting the rum, we taste citrus, some bacon, the molasses is dark with licorice, black tea, tobacco. 8,5:The finish is long, dry, still smoky, peated, the burnt sugar is caramelized, from charred wood, there is some chocolate, coffee, the fruits still dried, some tar/rubber are here. Edit:21.4.25 😋

bhoar ey... so if you're into really smoky whiskies then this is already a really good transfer to rum but in my case just not. I've had hope on the nose but in the taste this is just pure islay/Speyside... clear the rum supports with sweetness and makes it quaffable but these peat notes go me just not pure sorry. for me no longer as rum drinkable and perceptible ... too bad, the base rum would have delivered well!

Whiskey notes are very present. Nevertheless a nice one and a nice experiment imho.

This is a tasting set from 2022 where we had a lot of fun around the table. The most amazing thing about this rum is the peat notes in there. Lightly fruity and nice smoky wood with good ABV integration. The empty glass is amazing and has some chocolate.

The nose - quite strong woody and spicy mix..some tones of fruits an raisins…not bad… The color- i like dark colors of rum - that’s the work of sherry - so dark brown and red..maybe like mahagon..but the dark one. The taste is interesting - i like whiskey and smoked ones too, so I am ok with that fact that it tastes like you mixed rum with whiskey….some tones are from rum - fruity and sweet tones, and it’s covered with smoked leather tones. You can also can find oak/wooden/barell taste. Some sips are quite strong, harsh, alcoholic, but after while it’s better and more smoked tones appears.

Wieder mal wegen des Whisky Finishes eigentlich nicht mein Fall. Allerdings ist dieser mit dem Diamond doch recht stimmig. Kann man tatsächlich gut trinken.
