Franconian Tasting Gang on 23.11.24 at Jarek. A positive surprise for me in the evening, as this is not necessarily my favorite corner of rum. But I have to admit that I really enjoyed it.

Hard to find, I wanted this bottle exactly because I was already disappointed by Velier's Haitian. A pastry nose with sugar cane and funky (ex Jamaican rum barrel?). On the palate we find the funky with woody, banana and rum grapes which still reminds us of Jamaica.Very disappointing and volatile at the opening, it has mellowed and complexified with oxidation and time.A very good idea the aging in rum cask. Better than younger Sajous and more interesting than an older clairin.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is an agricole like, with sugarcane honey, minty and musty, dried fruits like raisins, prunes, roasted wood with nuts, caramel, confectionery and some solvents.Very round. On aeration, citrus fruits come in, more vegetal aspect of the cane with flowery, herbaceous tones, tea and tobacco, very late joins chilli.Waxy tannins are also evident. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fresh, tasty with sugarcane juice, honey, a bit mineral, roasted wood with nuts and caramel, the fruits are dried with currants, prunes, after resting the rum with apricots, maybe peaches.It also shows more Clairin with vegetal olive, brine, herbaceous and flowery notes, air allows mint to express, tobacco, vanilla and citrus fruits and some esters. 8,7:The finish is long, more dry, tannic, with additional notes like fermented strawberry, confectionery, hay and a whiff of smoke.. #5183 29.03.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Fresh, light, light wood, sugarcane, faint smoke, dried fruit, light earthy, light banana. Palate Oily, fresh, light, light wood, light earthy, sugarcane, light floral, light vegetal, fruits. Finish Medium long, round, oily, fruits, light floral, faint grass, sugarcane. Empty glass Sugarcane, light caramel, light citrus, light floral.

Leckerer Sajous, der mit dem Bielle Fass definitiv einen neunen Teist mitbringt. Sowohl gereifte Merkmale als auch originale Merkmale des Grundstoffes kommen durch durch. Definitiv etwas für alle, die auf gereifte Rums u d den Clairin Grundstoff stehen.

Un Clairin déguisé et original qui mise sur l’élégance plutôt que la puissance. Le nez est extrêmement équilibré et complexe pour seulement 3 ans de vieillissement. On croirait un Bielle avec les notes de miel, de canne à sucre et les épices qui accompagnent un raisin sec opulent et onctueux. Les notes herbacées et rôties sur le tabac parachèvent un rhum tout en finesse et en justesse. Bluffant. L’attaque en bouche est toujours dans l’élégance et le raffinement du type agricole, avec des notes mielleuses sur la canne, du caramel, des raisins secs, des épices douces (vanille, poivre), du tabac et du chêne légèrement rôti. Le fût apporte toutefois un peu d’amertume, d’astringence et de volatilité, et le Bielle ne passe pas inaperçu. L’alcool est bien intégré. La finale est de longueur correcte, avec les mêmes notes sucrées, agricoles et rôties. On ressent une forme de chaleur alcoolique et tannique en bouche, accompagnée par la douceur des arômes fruités et mielleux. Le fût de Bielle a tendance à prendre le dessus sur le clairin, mais l’équilibre et la clarté du profil excuse ce léger défaut.

Franconian Tasting Gang - 23.11.2024: Die Flasche habe ich schon länger offen und es hat dem Rum sehr gut getan. Er ist sanfte und gezähmter geworden, fast schon Mild. Der Alkohol ist jetzt besser eingebunden, das Bielle-Fass kommt noch besser durch und es kommen Trauben-Noten dazu, die an ein ehemaliges Weinfass erinnern. Die für das Alter sehr dunkle und rötliche Farbe würde auch in diese Richtung deuten. Heute wird die Wertung etwas angehoben!

Weiterhin der beste Clairin, den ich im Glas hatte. Ist sicherlich nicht der komplexeste und der Einfluss des Bielle-Fasses überlagert den Charakter des Sajous. Aber ich mag den Fasseinfluss sehr. Mild, süffig, angenehme Süße, Fruchtigkeit und das zu einem sehr fairen Preis.

Al naso si presenta con canna dolce, erbe, fermentati, pelle, legno leggermente tostato, frutti secchi, tabacco e uvetta. Al palato ripresenta praticamente gli stessi aromi, ma in proporzioni diverse. L'influenza Bielle si fa sentire anche nel finale (e mi piace), il retrogusto resta leggermente secco. Ausdrucksstarker Clairin mit deutlicher Sajous Handschrift. In der Nase Zuckerrohr, Kräuter, etwas Zitrus und eine leicht fermentierte Note. Am Gaumen intensiv, herb und würzig mit Erde, Pfeffer und einer warmen Holznote aus dem Bielle Fass. Die Frucht bleibt eher verhalten, dafür zeigt der Rum viel Charakter und Energie. Insgesamt ein spannender, rustikaler Clairin mit klarer Identität.

For me, still the reference matured Clairins. Perfect balance between distillate and barrel, complex, independent and intense, with well integrated alcohol. At the issue price, a fantastic PLV.
