Savanna Unshared Cask for Germany 2006

Glue, varnish and overripe fruit come first, then wood, ginger-pepper spice and a hint of cognac underneath. One German taster nailed the palate as "total flavor chaos" — astringent, dry, and wildly atypical. At 64.8% the alcohol reads well integrated, and a few minutes of air help. This is Savanna funk turned up loud, and it splits people who taste it.

The community says
  • Loud ester funk
  • Long spicy finish
  • But: Very atypical

The second Savanna unshared cask for Germany. What's going on here in the glass is totally wild! Totally astringent with heaps of aromas of wood, spice, stone fruits such as apricot and peach, also accompanied by cognac. A chaos of flavors on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is very long, with the typical strawberry yoghurt cautiously emerging. I think this bottling is very cool! But I can also understand people who don't like it.

It's not bad. It drinks well. Well integrated alcohol, nice length. For me a little too spicy.

The nose is industrial, with varnish and glue. Ripe, very ripe fruit. Toasted dried fruit and dark chocolate. On the palate, there's yellow fruit (banana, fig...) but above all spice (ginger-pepper). Rather dry, with tobacco notes. The finish is long on burnt wood and olive. This aromatic profile is very singular, and far from greedy. It's very atypical and I didn't really like it. I didn't really enjoy this rum, apart from trying to unravel the aromas.
