Abuelo Añejo
For a rum with real added sugar, this Panama column-still bottling leans drier and woodier than you'd expect, with vanilla, caramel and a creme brulee edge that a few tasters even likened to a bourbon-style finish. Extrem unangenehm. Gefällt mir gar nicht. Mich erinnert die gesamte geruchs/geschmackskombi an son schweres alte Damen Parfum. Sehr blumig, komisch parfumiert in der Nase. Dazu pfeffrig scharf und alkoholisch auf der Zunge. Also meins ist es überhaupt nicht.

A little Abuelo tasting. Somehow I like this rum. A nice vanilla and caramel note here too. Slightly sweet, but completely ok. Not quite as good as the previous two, but still better than the classic average rum.

I like the fruity nose a little better than the complex but average palate. More individual aromas develop in the finish. Nothing disturbs here, simple and delicious.

A nice sipper. Nothing special but for the price it's really not bad at all. More woody than fruity. The taste and finish bring strong creme brulee notes for me.

A very sweet rum. Weak on the nose. The taste is mainly sweet, otherwise there is not much to taste. Then a slight roasted aroma in the short finish. All in all, a very one-sided rum for my taste.

Simple, but gives a feeling of a rum that captures well the price-benefit ratio. Nothing special, but gives a basic rum standard.

A strong, woody, unsweet rum. With a bourbon/whisky finish. I didn't like it much on its own, but it's excellent for a short drink. 1:1 with cola/pepsi and ice. Great. (I'm a rumbeginner, not a pro)

Read full review →Despite being only a 7 year old I think its more suited to someone who sips rum. The cola seemed to take away some of the flavour of this rum. Personally with this in mind I think its too good to mix in cocktails. If you like your spirits neat...
