Clarendon Rum Artesanal Jamaica Rum EMB 1995
Mango, papaya and banana meet glue, oak and a roasted, almost umami savoriness in this 26-year Clarendon EMB. Members call the fruit basket "welcoming," but the 67.2% needs an hour in the glass and a drop of water to fully open. Several rank it their personal Clarendon '95 benchmark; the minty, tannic dryness on the finish is real.

Deep, fruity Clarendon that needs time and air A beloved cask-strength Clarendon most call their '95 reference. The catch: give it long rest and maybe water, or the high alcohol flattens the fruit and turns it hot and astringent.

The winner of my clarendon 1995 EMB tasting🤤😎🥃 What an amazing rum 😍 Very round, delicious, nice complexity. The alcohol is integrated very well. The long storage bring in a lot of wood but in a balanced way. Some lovely ester notes and fruitbasket in the nose make it welcoming. I like a lot the minty notes in mouth and long finish. Because of the ageing and % i let it rest in the glass for not less the one hour

Not really what i was expecting … perhaps my palate is coloured but i bought this sample as a bottle split and it had a very dry finish and the high level of alcohol just over powers everything. The ester and alcohol combination makes it very difficult to define anything else. I think this needs nore water and time to open up as certainly this was not great for me.

Very intense nose - brilliant. Yet somewhat more harsh than the Velier WK 95 MM. This does continue - less round and elegant than the Velier. On the other hand very intensive more emphasis on milk chocolate and burnt notes. Also a very nice MM going toe to toe with the Velier while the alcohol is not 100% perfectly integrated in this one. Nose: V&M > RA > RC = FSB-BS The lower ABV bottling presents the more fruity and peasant nose straight up. Others significantly more heavy, dark and sharp. Palate: [Velier] > RA > RC > FSB-BS > V&M On the palate I have to give it to the higher proof combatants as they are all properly evil in what they do. However, imho V&M bottled their cask at the exact right ABV to enjoy the EMB right from the bottle. Edit: Taking the RA side by side to the Warren Khong, I have to put this on second place of my overall ranking. Very nice intensity. The Velier provides a better balance, however. Strong 2nd.

Simply great aromatics: the long aging adds a lot of complexity without becoming too bitter or otherwise overpowering the flavor profile. Fruit esters and wood embedded in a lovely sweetness...theoretically conceivable that you might not like this - but would make no sense. For me, this is great cinema. In direct comparison with the Tara and the Rum Club again a little more unfiltered fruit and menthol. The bottling remains an absolute top representative from Clarendon.

This is for me the almost perfect rum. Balance of maturity and fruit is fantastic. After the Jamaican opening comes surprisingly still a horny lovage note around the corner and pushes again a complexity layer to it. In the mouth best of Clarendon: on the one hand mango, passion fruit and on the other hand the spiciness of coriander seed and menthol. For me, the 67.2% is on point. In the finish everything again but new with horny hop note. For me the best rum I've drunk so far.

Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Nice and fruity. Barrel comes through well. After a longer time in the glass comes a minty freshness and at the same time pleasant tobacco notes. Alcohol quite well integrated.

Wow, nose is astonashing. Mouth is also a high level one. Perfect Jamaican rum !
Review by Adrian Wahl
Remains for me the reference of the 95 Clarendon. Tested directly against the Fine Drams 95 EMB.
Review by Leo Krüper
Complex. Mint, tar, tire, tobacco, leather, chamomile tea. Alcohol burns unfortunately and prevents a better rating

Quite a blast.... Very intense and full bodied! Very tasty...The more I try it, the better it gets 😁

Always a highlight. For me, the best EMB from 1995 so far
Review by cigares
Tropical fruit on the nose, with lots of banana, but also wood glue, oak and a hint of ferment that carries through to the palate. The attack is straightforward, and immediately the fruit is there, complex and rich. The glue has faded into the background, but the wood is still very present. There's a roasted, umami quality. The whole forms a beautiful, coherent and balanced whole. The alcohol is perfectly integrated too. I was very surprised to see such a high ABV! The finish lingers for a long time, with the same flavors slowly fading. A very fine rum, perhaps too woody for some, but for me it's perfect!

An astonishing rum with a brilliant nose! Fruity and oaky at the same time but not at the expense of each other. Coffee, chocolate, quite intense and complex! Would have to be one of the best rums I've had in my glass to date.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
After resting this rum for 15+ minutes it released a wonderful mix of flavours. Fruity with barrel and spices from nose to finish. I like the oily chocolate on the palate and also the long finish where there is a hint of coffee.

Absolute firecracker in terms of MM!💥
Review by TheRhumhoe
A superb Clarendon, as explosive as it is elegant. The nose is adorned with exotic fruits (banana in particular) and phenolic notes, but above all succeeds in perfectly marrying a well-integrated woodiness given the ageing process. Chocolate, spice and toast envelop this liquid beauty in a velvety cloak. A very complex and aromatic nose, without being extreme, very homogeneous. The palate is powerful, very tannic and acidic. Almost rotten tropical fruit combines with lime acidity, more perceptible oak and more pronounced spices (pepper, chili). Esters are much more discreet. The alcohol makes itself felt, but remains very well integrated into the finished product. Beware, however, of deflagration. The finish is very long, accompanied by exotic fruits, woody, tannic and spicy notes. There's a touch of bitterness and a salty edge to the palate, as well as aromatic herbs and aromas of leather and advanced fermentation. It's a very elegant profile, with less of a kick than other, funkier Jamaicans. Here, the funk is tamed by a very delicate woodiness and hints of sweetness that allow you to enjoy the nectar, despite the 67.2 degrees. A fine selection of Rum Artesanal, to be drunk in micro-sigs.

Review by Frank
fun...Nose: intense and complex. Fruity with citrus (kumquat and tangerine) plus some green apple with cherry. a caramel sweetness, almost like from fresh cotton candy comes in. But then also some wood with vanilla and pipe tobacco, plus a slight vinegar tang and old varnish.Palate: Full-bodied. a bit astringent and bitter-salty at first. then some fruitiness of bitter orange and mealy banana with distinct mint. Woody with nutmeg.finish fruity, minty, woody.
Review by Christoph
Very inviting fruity nose with some glue. On the palate, banana and coconut are complemented by milk chocolate and coffee. One notices but also clearly the alcohol here even for me as a FS fan is a bit too heavy.
Review by Sebastian Kornett
Nice dry Clarendon. Arrived clearly better on the second run.
Review by RumTaTa
Nose: after about 40 minutes in the glass, I have associations with heavy long pond rums of the Marks TECA and TECC with fermented tropical fruit - wicked! On the palate, a nice mix of herbs, fruits, black tea and a little licorice. The barrel notes are strong but fortunately not review. The finish could have been a little longer and more intense for such a long aged rum. But it is very harmonious to the impression on the palate. An excellent rum. The Colours of Rum Clarendon N°2 from the same vintage I like a little better because of the more intense fruitiness.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
The nose is really fun after 1.5-2h of breathing. Sour cherry, lime, red berries, toasted coconut chips, honey banana and slightly fleshy.
Review by Gunnar Böhme "Bauerngaumen" 🤓
I already knew why I HAD to buy a second bottle of this rum, despite the "robust" price. This is simply a top rum, my personal Clarendon benchmark. And it gets better and better and more multifaceted the longer it is allowed to breathe. Heavenly!
Review by Oliver
For me the highlight of the new RA releases!
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
The nose is full of tannins, nuts and sour notes. Palette is creamy, fruity (exotic), soury, smoky, some coffee, herbs and tannins again. a very intense expression compared to '10 EMB, maybe fruits are a bit less pronounced here, also a touch of sulphur at the end. Given the alcohol strength this is very well integrated, but I benefited from some drops of water. Thanks alot Tobias for sharing a sample.
Review by Agricoler
This is definitely a really fine drop. Incredibly intense vanilla sweetness with woodiness and plenty of tropical fruit as well as beautiful esters. The mint note also complements the rum perfectly. The taste is then noticeably more spicy. Significantly less bitterness than the Tara. The nose is completely retained in the taste. Great rum with an everlasting finish.
Review by mto75
from the 10GRF RA Tasting Set...very massive MM EMB! On the nose it still works, but on the palate the high ABV suppresses the flavors but quite...with a few drops of water it becomes nuttier.
Review by Rodolphe
Wow. Thanks Lukas for this sample. It is excellent. One of the best rums I've tasted. If you also have the opportunity to taste this rum, well don't miss it because to taste it is to love it 😉😁
Review by Serge
Very cool rum - like almost all 1995 EMB 👌 ... in the mind game "If I could only have 10 bottles of rum" there would certainly be a 1995 EMB. Very tasty and complex.
Review by Christian Rudt
Give it time and it will thank you for it. The right rum for a long evening. Needs a lot of time to open up, but then the woody notes fade a little, (overripe) tropical fruits (papaya!) and the wonderful roasted note emerge. The finish is then quite dry and slightly astringent, it becomes a little salty and there is also a hint of (dried) herbs. A pleasure that is everything but boring. 😋
Review by tojo
Exceptionally good and fine nose, which could well be assigned to a Demerara rum. Sour cherry, banana, plum. Spicy notes, vanilla and wood. On the palate, it then becomes a bit more tart and wood and roasted flavors come through. Thus, the RA Clarendon makes it into the class: excellent.
Review by Lukas Jäger
Perhaps the insider tip of the new RA releases! Wood, smoke and bacon meets tropical fruit. A very exciting bottling that is probably somewhat overlooked next to the REV. Yet its brothers and sisters (e.g. Velier Villa Paradisetto) are now widely known and sought after. The direct comparison is still pending, but it definitely has nothing to hide! Spreads throughout the mouth and lingers for a long time - 26 years of ageing have really done a good job here! I like it very much!
Review by Joachim Guger
Very balanced nose. Honey, caramel, esters, solvents, restrained wood maturity and then a fruit stand in Savador da Bahia. Some rot from the gutter included. Alcohol very well integrated. In the mouth horny plastic knots, the rot continues...Super Jamaican, for me at the upper end of the Funky Nassau, er Kingston scale.
Review by DaveLamb
good bottle! more cherry, tropical fruits and toasted hints compared to 94 plantation. More sugar and baked pastries, easy to accept(like REV/MER to other high-ester versailles). By contrast, I prefer the exotic 94 mmw(rx10637). That mysterious spice are obvious more funky.
Review by MarcT
Wow! OK, be honest. At first I thought Clarendon? Let's see... I generally had not much that was exceptional from there, but I did not expect this... Fruitiness in wood (very noticeable but not overpowerering or with massive influence of tannins). I had a strong connection to English Orange Marmelade while drinking it, the Orange Zest is there among other fruits I could not decipher in the small sample, it is also sweet (while being unsweetened, mild and intense and dry at the same time. The alcohol is noticeable, a quite strong rum, but it does not taste like 67%, to be honest. I am very happy to find that I have a bottle of this in my cabinet...

How good and intense!
Review by Benoit Mahe
A lovely tropical fruit salad on the palate, opening onto a darker but equally pleasant finish. A touch strong in alcohol and too astringent. A pity, with a little reduction it could have been a great rum. Still, it's a fine product. No idea of the price, though, but it can't be cheap and I'm not sure I'd pay it.

Review by Martin Augustin
A very nice Jamaican. An absolute fruit basket with glue on the nose. Complex on the palate. Of course, tropical fruits again, papaya, light mint, vanilla and milk chocolate on the finish. Very well-rounded.

First review of 2026. This rum did sit in the glass for a good 20 minutes before the review. On the nose: I feel like everytime i stuck my nose in the glass, the first note is new, different note but on overall, Roasted woody notes. Glue and little bit of esters. Good honey and caramel notes giving a nice level of sweetness. Fruity notes like coconut and banana. The high abv is present. Taste: Intense at first. Fruity notes like mangoes, papayas Woody notes. Strong minty notes. Little bit of herbal notes. Little bit of vanilla. Fermented notes. Finish: Woody notes. Mint/herbal notes. Dry. Fermented. Quite the palate that this rum offers. Maybe a touch too alcoholic and minty in order to receive really high score, but i would like revisit this rum some day and then compare it to other EMB rums
Review by Andi
So this really is an exceptionally good aroma and flavor profile. The rum offers a lot of complexity, fruity, woody notes with a slight sweetness. There is also a very pleasant menthol note.

0&-11-2025 - Rate 9.3 Yet another fantastic Clarendon ‘95. Have tasted some ‘95 Clarendon’s now. And this one is as amazing as the others. Nose has glue, ester, tropical fruits and wood. Palate is close to the smell. With hints of spice and roasted wood. Long finish dominated by glue and tropical fruits. 25-10-2025 - Rate 9.2

Very nice representative of the 95 EMBs. High complexity, very long finish. Alcohol integration is ok, but there are even better representatives.

Very complex but also spicy rum. Many fruits that are all a little overripe or fermented. Due to the long maturation are very nice barrel flavors.
