RA Barbados Rum (Rockley Style) 2000
Rockley-style hunters and people who like funky, "dirty" WIRD profiles are the crowd here. Expect honeycomb and beeswax honey, smoky roasted wood, dried apricot and olive-brine, with a black-tea, herbal edge. Several tasters compare it to Fiji rum. The recurring gripe: at 47,1% it drinks a touch thin and watery, so the body doesn't fully back up that lovely nose.
The community says- Honeycomb honey note
- Smoky roasted wood
- Thin, watery body

Aggregated from 72 community reviews.
Honeyed, smoky Rockley — lovely nose, thin body Loved for its honey-and-smoke Rockley character and long finish, but many wish it had more power — it reads thin for a cask strength and lives in the 1986 vintage's shadow.

The "dirty" style suits this distillate perfectly and I find the beeswax-like undertones very interesting. I am extremely enthusiastic about this Barbados WIRD, but cannot compare it with any other rockley styles.

Sehr interessantes Profil.

The affordable bottling of the Q4/2021 release. After starting the year with a cracker in the form of the Rockley, now the little brother. Very inviting nose, pleasantly light on the first breath, but a deeper complexity quickly becomes apparent. A beautiful potpourri of aromas. It shows a slightly different side on the palate: surprisingly woody and bitter for "only" 21 years (vs. 35 of the 86). Unfortunately very thin, so that it seems very flat compared to the nose. Longer finish than expected. Certainly the best PLV from the release, but not a highlight for me in terms of taste.

This is a good WIRD but obviously less tasty than 1986 vintage.

8,4:On the nose, the first impression we get is a combination of a smoky, roasted wood notes and esters, fruits like banana, perhaps green apple and grassy, herbaceous molasses with honeycomb. On aeration, it becomes pungent, intense with camphor, waxy, vegetal with olive, intermittently dried fruits like raisins, apricots and citrus intermingle with spicy, smoky wood, meaty undertones and tannins. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is vegetal with olive, covered in honey and smoky, roasted wood notes like nuts, bacon, bbq, spicy and salty. After resting the rum, metallic notes arise, grassy, herbaceous molasses, some licorice and a lot of fruits like banana, pineapple, some green fruits and dried, citrus fruits. 8,3:The finish is medium long, slightly tannic, dry, the palate notes linger on, some vegetal aspect shows itself with black tea, hay, tea, saffran and confectionery with salted biscuits, pastry and dark tones with leather, cocoa..

Dried fruit throughout in a smoky bed coated with honey on the palate and some marzipan on the nose. In principle, but has little to do with the 1986 forest walk in terms of taste.

beautiful honeycomb Rockley nose. Also on the palate, the interplay of honey and oak barrel harmonizes really well. The finish is round (spicy). However, it lacks a little complexity and intensity for a top note.

The nose leaves a fine impression, with notes of beeswax and honey that add to the aromatic herbs, sweet spices, wood and glue notes. Fruits are quite prominent, notably banana, coconut, pineapple, mango and dried fruit, like a fruitcake. There's a light empyreumatic note that gives a complete, structured profile. The attack on the palate follows the olfactory framework with lovely honeyed, floral notes, moving towards aromatic herbs and spices to achieve a complex, complete profile. Fruit is less present, hidden by more smoky, woody notes. Despite the relatively low voltage, this is an expressive, easy-drinking rum, where the alcohol is well integrated. The finish is of decent length, with dry, tannic notes, on spices, wood and herbal notes. There's some bitterness on the finish too, with fuller-bodied aromas. A very pleasant profile, full of charm.

Needs a quite some time to breath. Nose starts out rather closed up with a lot of (bitter-ish) herbs with notes of honey, coco and fruits developing over time. ABV is a little low on this one. Does not feel to much watered down, however, the CG bottling of the 2000 has just the upper hand with enhanced intensity. Nevertheless a very nice rum at its initial price tag.

Yes, it's not an 86, but the style comes out clearly, and I like that. Nose: superficially some graphite with a little phenol and this nice saltiness. I find fruit in the direction of dried apricot and a spicy honey note with honeycomb. On the back, dried rosemary and a slightly vinegary undertone of pickled olive. Palate: a slightly watered-down, flat impression at the beginning, but then comes nicely with its special flavors. Again slightly salty and then freshly cut branches, oak leaves, graphite, some fresh mint leaves, dried apricot. I like it!

Solid Rockley. Light and accessible. It lacks some power for a higher rating.

I would have liked this one with a higher ABV because it is kind of thin around the edges. The nose is fruity with smoky wood and herbal, honey and light vanilla notes. The palate is mild with smoky wood, dried fruit, honey, nuts, chocolate and light vanilla. The finish is medium long and woody with vanilla and chocolate. Leave the empty glass for a few hours and then nose it again to get the lovely chocolate and vanilla notes. Price to quality is OK.

The nose is rather in the restraint! We find notes of honey, smoked, tobacco, fruits and vanilla! The mouth is creamy and greedy. It draws on vanilla, woody, smoky and like a touch of olive. The finish is on peppery chocolate but lacks length for a rum of this caliber. I'm happy to have tasted it because I own a bottle, but I admit I have to think about its future. Because it disappointed me a bit. Not that it is bad, but it is too sweet for my taste. I am far from the pleasure of tasting the WIRD 1986 from Nobilis!

Interessanter Tropfen. Hab ständig diese Mate Tee Verbindung, auf jeden Fall sehr floral der Kollege. Leider ein wenig schwach auf der Brust. Er ist schon lecker, kann aber den Hype um WIRD nicht ganz verstehen.

Typical Rockley representative, but rather from the form as I do not like it so.has something of rotten, wet and rotten wood.... In addition, there is intense saffron (if you know the aroma), some other herbs and wood again and of course strong honeycomb honey notes, but it seems altogether very watered down and thin. Can not imagine with the best will in the world that ne barrel strength should be. This saffron note is new to me but and is extremely exciting!

The Cave Guildive is more complex and powerful in comparison. The RA seems somewhat watered down by the 47.1%. The finish is extremely long and beautiful. Reminds me of a Fiji rum. The typical honey note is there, but not quite as present.
