Chairman's Reserve Legacy
Anyone easing into funkier, character-driven rum without getting knocked over will find a lot to like here. It's a Saint Lucia blend of pot and column, molasses with a splash of cane juice: green banana, vanilla, salted caramel, oak and a light industrial funk that leans technical rather than fruity. Many call it their go-to recommendation for non-nerd friends. Most agree the nose beats the palate.

Aggregated from 203 community reviews.
Funky, fruity Saint Lucia everyday sipper Loved for the character it packs at 43%, especially by newer drinkers. The common gripe: it's a touch underpowered, with a short finish some wish had more punch.

8,1:On the nose it is spicy, fruity with tropical fruits, slightly smoky, woody and a bit roasted. The aeration reveals more fruits and some orange peel with spiciness. The cherry and almond come next, as it becomes pastry like. Very ripe exotic fruits underpin the rum through our tasting, there is also copper. Balanced and complex. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is soft, tasty, dry, like a fruit compote with spices. Like a jam with almond flavors and some coppery touch. We might think of some creamy hazelnuts also, some vanilla, also. The fruits are overripe, like they are stewed...But the banana is almost green.😉 8,2:The finish is sweet and dry with pastry, almonds, vanilla and very ripe exotic fruits, a touch of iodine and lightly smoky... An easy sipper, tasty. Edit:18.4.26

Bitterness takes over the otherwise nice experience
Review by Stefan Persson
This rum comes from 4 different distillates that vary in age from 5 to 8 years all aged in ex bourbon barrels. Most of rum is molasses based and comes from column stills, but there are also some pot still rum of which a little part is cane juice based. Overall I must say that it’s a very good rum with rather high complexity.

Compared to the other releases from the Chairman's reserve I'd say this one is more refined and complex in the taste. A wonderful funky nose transcending into a wonderful complex palate with a spicy entry and a fruity touch to the end. The finish is long, deep and has complexity to it. This is a blend of 7.5 years John Dore, 7 years Vendome, 5.5 years Coffey RR104 and a 5 years John Dore.

It's amazing what you get for your money here! Complex nose with lots of fruit, esters, smoky, herbal, spicy, brown sugar, honey. There's a lot to discover. It continues just as well in the mouth. For 43%, the rum is really intense, can be drunk straight and can certainly be used in one or two cocktails. What a shame that typical beginner's rums are more expensive than this one, but not as good.

Tasted at Rhum Fest 2023. I'm not a big fan of Szinte Lucie rums and didn't find this one of much interest. Vanilla, woody. Slightly fruity too. Fairly homogeneous. The palate is in line with the nose.
Review by HenryL
I associate this rum with a wonderful distillery tour by an incredibly nice team. The sugar cane juice brings a lot of complexity to this rum and makes it not only a must-have for me, but also the rum with the best price-performance ratio of all.

Dazu kommt auch etwas Herbales, was etwas zum modrigen tendiert, was mir weniger gefällt.
Review by Eric Frechin

Notes taken at Rhum Fest 2024, Quick notes and a bit heavy palate, sorry :) Here we have: a little addition of agricole that brings a little pep and complexity. A rum: vanilla & wood, with some sweet spices Finish: medium
Review by Christoph
Very powerful nose in which the sugar cane juice is very present. Banana at the beginning and end and nice lime in the middle. Amazingly tasty.
Review by Patrik Onderka
I liked this rum, not bad at all for the five year old St. Lucia. My first chairman from Saint Lucia distillers. I felt raisin and peaches on nose. It was pleasent in mouth with well integrated alcohol and little dry finish, but tasty.
Review by Henry Davies
It is well balanced and the favour profile is great but the rum is just underpowered for me and lacks the strength to showcase at its best. It is an easy entry level sipper and will be liked by non rum fans for the sugared notes and vanilla on the pallate. Nose is flat without a huge amount of much aside from muted tropical fruit. Mouth is better, good flavours and on the sweeter side but lacking the punch it needs to work. Finish as expected is a tad short and fades away with hint of sweetness. Ok but not super exciting
Review by Nils123
Solid and complex. You get really good quality for the price. I wonder what it would be like with a few percent more...

Good value for money. I preferred the nose to the mouth. Just lacks length

Powerful and mature, nice after-work sipper or in intensive mixes
Review by Martin Ekrt
Jemná vůně s trochou ovoce, techničnosti, spáleného karamelu a dřeva. Podobné dojmy zanechává i v chuti.
Review by Boletus
Fruity, spicy, drinkable and with a pleasant, natural sweetness. For carefree enjoyment in the affordable price range, this is a really great, unsweetened rum that I really like!
Review by Luca
Surprisingly complex with fruit esters, barrel and spices. When a non-rumnerd asks me for a recommendation, I very often advise this one :)
Review by Fabrice Rouanet
Limited gustatory interest. The mouth is superior to the nose but the finish is short and uninteresting.

Very very nice rum. This is something exactly for me. It is moderately sweet on the 👅 and full of cocoa, dark chocolate, vanilla and spicy elements while 👃 is fresh, raisins and you can even distinguish some congeners or ester tones. Very nicely balanced and for its price, great rum. I am going for a bottle.
Review by Schnapsschuesse
Toasty, woody, slightly funky, fresh and fruity on the nose. Some ester and the fruit is very fresh, with a hint of peach. It also has fresh sugar cane notes. Very pleasant overall. Beautiful nose! The palate is initially quite spicy and woody and hardly sweet. Pleasantly dry, the fruit esters nicely, grassy sugar cane becomes stronger in the middle and takes over the finish. There are very slight Agricole associations here. A nice thing, somewhat edgier than the standard - but in a positive sense. Also much more complex than other representatives of this price category. Bag it!

Lots of green notes on the nose. Grass, vanilla, wild flowers followed by a note of tar. A round palate. Lots of banana and peach. Cut flowers and a faint industrial note. The finish is medium in length. Warming without getting spicy. Dark chocolate with a sprinkle of anise. A great chairmans reserve. For my money, the best of the cheaper end of the core range.

Review by ManuelP
Not in love but super intrigued. “It's not often that a rum provides as much funk as some of the more characteristic Jamaican rums, but Chairman's Reserve Legacy checks that box. It's a funk that leans more industrial than fruity, and has a lot of notes that I can't exactly distinguish.” I agree with that
Review by Kéké
round, slightly woody, a little vanilla, very good for the price.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
solid chairman's drinking strength but not an outlier.

Green plantain/banana, salted caramel, cooked pear, wood and light industrial funk
Review by ordogh
Quite complex compared to its pricetag. Some grassy notes and molassy roundness and spices making it a very enjoyable rum.
Review by Cédric Meyers
Very well-integrated alcohol. Smooth and round.
Review by MJ72
Pleasantly fruity with notes of dried fruit and vanilla. Spicy present, vanilla, raisins with a mild finish. Overall round and easy to drink.

Sample no.18 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2022. A blend betweeen pot and column makes this rum have a bit of the funky harsh flavours of a pot stilled rum but the column takes the edge off and makes it more pleasant for a beginner. Nose have that weak underlying scent of something chemical like nail polish but also alot of grass and fruit along with esters and spices. Palate is funky and smooth. Tropical fruits, vanilla and grass. A good starter rum if you want to explore more funky rums.

This hands down is one of the best value for money rums on the market . A special-edition rum from Chairman's Reserve, Legacy celebrates the distillery's founder Laurie Bernard and honours his method of blending spirits from different types of stills and casks. Tasting notes

Fantastic rum! You can truly feel and taste sugarcane and the character of well aged rum. Great value for money!

Nose is super nice and engaging, but taste is just not there. Would like to try this at a higher strenght.
