Chairman‘s Reserve Legacy
Anyone easing into funkier, character-driven rum without getting knocked over will find a lot to like here. It's a Saint Lucia blend of pot and column, molasses with a splash of cane juice: green banana, vanilla, salted caramel, oak and a light industrial funk that leans technical rather than fruity. Many call it their go-to recommendation for non-nerd friends. Most agree the nose beats the palate.

Aggregated from 197 community reviews.
Funky, fruity Saint Lucia everyday sipper Loved for the character it packs at 43%, especially by newer drinkers. The common gripe: it's a touch underpowered, with a short finish some wish had more punch.

8,1:On the nose it is spicy, fruity with tropical fruits, slightly smoky, woody and a bit roasted. The aeration reveals more fruits and some orange peel with spiciness. The cherry and almond come next, as it becomes pastry like. Very ripe exotic fruits underpin the rum through our tasting, there is also copper. Balanced and complex. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is soft, tasty, dry, like a fruit compote with spices. Like a jam with almond flavors and some coppery touch. We might think of some creamy hazelnuts also, some vanilla, also. The fruits are overripe, like they are stewed...But the banana is almost green.😉 8,2:The finish is sweet and dry with pastry, almonds, vanilla and very ripe exotic fruits, a touch of iodine and lightly smoky... An easy sipper, tasty. Edit:18.4.26

Bitterness takes over the otherwise nice experience

I associate this rum with a wonderful distillery tour by an incredibly nice team. The sugar cane juice brings a lot of complexity to this rum and makes it not only a must-have for me, but also the rum with the best price-performance ratio of all.

Limited gustatory interest. The mouth is superior to the nose but the finish is short and uninteresting.

Very powerful nose in which the sugar cane juice is very present. Banana at the beginning and end and nice lime in the middle. Amazingly tasty.
Review by MoMcGurk
A light oak flavor straight, with a little burn. Mixed, not quite as good.

Solid and complex. You get really good quality for the price. I wonder what it would be like with a few percent more...

Fruity, spicy, drinkable and with a pleasant, natural sweetness. For carefree enjoyment in the affordable price range, this is a really great, unsweetened rum that I really like!

This rum comes from 4 different distillates that vary in age from 5 to 8 years all aged in ex bourbon barrels. Most of rum is molasses based and comes from column stills, but there are also some pot still rum of which a little part is cane juice based. Overall I must say that it’s a very good rum with rather high complexity.

Toasty, woody, slightly funky, fresh and fruity on the nose. Some ester and the fruit is very fresh, with a hint of peach. It also has fresh sugar cane notes. Very pleasant overall. Beautiful nose! The palate is initially quite spicy and woody and hardly sweet. Pleasantly dry, the fruit esters nicely, grassy sugar cane becomes stronger in the middle and takes over the finish. There are very slight Agricole associations here. A nice thing, somewhat edgier than the standard - but in a positive sense. Also much more complex than other representatives of this price category. Bag it!

Compared to the other releases from the Chairman's reserve I'd say this one is more refined and complex in the taste. A wonderful funky nose transcending into a wonderful complex palate with a spicy entry and a fruity touch to the end. The finish is long, deep and has complexity to it. This is a blend of 7.5 years John Dore, 7 years Vendome, 5.5 years Coffey RR104 and a 5 years John Dore.

Not in love but super intrigued. “It's not often that a rum provides as much funk as some of the more characteristic Jamaican rums, but Chairman's Reserve Legacy checks that box. It's a funk that leans more industrial than fruity, and has a lot of notes that I can't exactly distinguish.” I agree with that

It's amazing what you get for your money here! Complex nose with lots of fruit, esters, smoky, herbal, spicy, brown sugar, honey. There's a lot to discover. It continues just as well in the mouth. For 43%, the rum is really intense, can be drunk straight and can certainly be used in one or two cocktails. What a shame that typical beginner's rums are more expensive than this one, but not as good.

Green plantain/banana, salted caramel, cooked pear, wood and light industrial funk

Echt super Rum fürs Geldnund die gute Verfügbarkeit. Vollmundiger karamelliger Geschmack der auch mit reichlich Frucht kommt. Dazu kommt auch etwas Herbales, was etwas zum modrigen tendiert, was mir weniger gefällt.

Smokey, cinnamon, smooth

Tasted at Rhum Fest 2023. I'm not a big fan of Szinte Lucie rums and didn't find this one of much interest. Vanilla, woody. Slightly fruity too. Fairly homogeneous. The palate is in line with the nose.

This hands down is one of the best value for money rums on the market . A special-edition rum from Chairman's Reserve, Legacy celebrates the distillery's founder Laurie Bernard and honours his method of blending spirits from different types of stills and casks. Tasting notes
Review by Eric Frechin
