Habitation Velier Hampden Single Cask Salon du Rhum LROK 2010
Near-universal love here, with the only real debate being how much attention it demands. This is a tropically-aged Hampden LROK: ripe pineapple, mango and banana up front, esters, vanilla and marzipan, then toasted oak, pepper and a touch of olive on the finish. At 63.2% the alcohol is heavy but well-integrated. One taster called the leftover empty glass a joy the next day.

mega delicious. Rum grape nut chocolate with a good bang and a tropical fruit salad soaked in rum on the nose, then more green sour grape & pineapple, cocoa, coconut and candied ginger in the taste. in the finish then a nice velvety mango, subtle licorice and again rum / grape / nut chocolate. very cool stuff!🤘🇯🇲🤤

Very nice single barrel bottling! Great intensity and creaminess due to the tropical maturation. Due to the high alcohol content, not an easy sipper, but insanely complex. Very good Hampden!

Subsequent tasting of the rum from 20.12. from the 2023 RumX calendar: Oh, what a heavy caliber! But really very tasty - a tropical drop to match the (today's) tropical-looking weather. The ultra-strong astringency stands out, but this is a beautiful expression of the impressive fruit aromas (almost mushy fruit, baked apple?), carried by the strong alcohol.

A superb Hampden that has everything a Jamaican lover could dream of. The nose is extremely funky, with a good heaviness on ripe exotic fruits, olive, esters, glue and varnish. Pepper, vanilla, marzipan and caramel diversify the aromatic palette of this Single Cask, which is already very pleasant on the nose. The palate is a beautiful aromatic bomb. A lovely compote of overripe exotic fruit and tangy citrus, with vanilla, pepper, marzipan, caramel, toasted oak, olive tapenade and funky notes to round it all off. Very well-balanced and homogeneous. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long and warm, with empyreumatic notes (smoky, roasted), spicy wood and licorice. Esters, glue and tropical fruit go hand in hand to balance it all out. A superb Single Cask that drinks like whey.

A really good LROK! Also clearly above the 'standard' Velier Pure Single 2010 / 11 yr. The high (very well integrated) ABV conveys many more facets.

Rum X Advent 20.12.2023 Toller Hampden, tolle Abfüllung. Alkohol stark aber mit viel geschmacklicher Kraft. Im Mund gute Balance von Vanille, gegrillte tropische Früchte und Zitrusfrüchte. Gepaart mit tropischer Reife und Holzeinfluss. Sehr lecker.

Sehr kräftiger LROK der Zeit braucht. So würzig das ich schon gedanklich woanders war aber natürlich auch hier viel Frucht wobei Banane und Mango hier den Ton angeben. Klasse wie vielschichtig der Rum ist. Da kann man blind schon Mal völlig daneben liegen 😁

Remaining sample I missed during the RumX Advent calendar. Quite a treat saved for last. From beginning to end it feels like a Hampden, esters are strongly felt, especially on strong pineapple notes. Slightly soury. High abv, but alcohol integrated well. Nice medium finish.

Karamellisiertes Mango-Ananas Eis mit Kokosflocken hätte ich jetzt gern. Aber als Rum auch nicht schlecht. Der Alkohol ist hier wunderbar eingebunden und trotzdem kommt gerade hinten aus eine schöne Esterladung, wobei aus den Kokosraspeln im Abgang eher Pfeffer wird.

Superb rum! An explosive nose that keeps evolving. Fruits galore. Discreet but sensitive esters. Sweet and intense on the palate. Explosion of fruit followed by darker notes. Just superb. I haven't enjoyed a Hampden for a long time.

Starke Einzelfassabfüllung von Hampden. Hier überzeugt mich die tropische Reifung. Sehr schöne Cremigkeit, tolle Fruchtnoten nach Mango, Ananas und Banane. Etwas Olive und Holz. Leichte Säure. Alkohol ist gut integriert.

RumX Adventskalender 20.12.23: Hm, Long Pond und Fiji kann ich mir eigentlich nicht vorstellen, wenn überhaupt, kommt nur ein LPS in Frage, von dem wir schon ein Exemplar hatten. In der Nase hätte ich deutlich zu Savanna tendiert, z.B. dem Unshared Cask for Germany (habe ich noch nie probiert und hatte den auch schon mal falsch getippt, aber aus seinen Fehlern lernen ist ja auch irgendwie langweilig). Am Gaumen dann stärker Richtung Jamaika, insbesondere Hampden im mittleren bis niedrigen Ester-Level. Bin in Summe unentschlossen, tendiere aber nochmal zu Hampden. Alkohol ~60%, 6-8 Jahre tropisch.

Calendar #20 / blind Der erste Eindruck war auch bei mir Hampden, viel buttriger Ester. Mit etwas Zeit im Glas kommt da aber sehr viel Würziges durch (Zimt, Nelken, Lebkuchen), was ich in diesem Ausmaß nicht mit Hampden verbinde. Dazu Hagebuttentee, Ananas, Leder und getrockneter Apfel. Geschmacklich dann auch eher fruchtig Richtung Savanna. Der Ester etwas subtiler und die Gewürze wieder im Vordergrund. Unshared Cask Germany ist es nicht, vielleicht ein anderes aus der Serie oder die Wild Islands? Gefällt mir sehr gut, ist aber auch nichts für nebenher, da braucht es die volle Aufmerksamkeit und ein paar Tropfen Wasser :)
