Velier Enmore ELCR 1995
The 61.2% barely shows up as heat — that's the first surprise most tasters mention. Tropically aged Enmore from Velier, all burnt sugar, oak, mocha and dried apricot, with a glue-and-varnish edge on the nose. Deep, bitter-sweet and long. A few call it the best Enmore they've had; a couple find it good but not quite worth the hype it carries.

How does Velier Enmore ELCR 1995 taste?
Aggregated from 93 community reviews.
Dark, woody old Demerara, alcohol hidden well Loved by most — dark, complex, intensely woody Demerara with beautifully hidden alcohol and a long finish. Some feel it's a touch over-hyped, and the bitter, dry ending divides opinion.

Review by Skyfly
A dreamily dark and complex rum where you don't notice the 60% ABV at all. The combination of Demerara sugar, oak, mocha, leather, chocolate, and on the fruity side (dried) apricot harmonizes perfectly and lingers forever in the finish!

Review by Serge
Update: Three months after opening the sample, the rum is still strong and aromatic. A wonderful rum. Elegant, but at the same time dark and strong. Significantly darker and more bitter than the ED 1996 ... and more complex. In addition to a beautiful profile with oak, vanilla, apricot, orange zest, toffee and glue, dark malt, raisins, cedar wood and aniseed waft across the nose. On the palate, the pleasing basic profile is complemented by bitter, burnt mocha, cocoa and fruit in dark syrup. Strong!

... The Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums were aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.

For me, this is simply a great old Demerara rum. I think the alcohol is simply superbly integrated. The complexity is simply wonderful and the finish is a poem. It's nice to be able to try this one. If the prices weren't so high now, I'd get myself a bottle.

Not my absolute favorite of the Velier Demeraras, but still high quality.

I love these super high quality old demeraras from Velier.Beautiful intense and harmonious nose. Old cedar, malty toast with intense tart-sweet plum jam and cherry. Dark caramel and sweet and sour, licorice molasses. Some dry vanilla powder at the back. Nicely spicy, slightly towards Maggi.Palate: full-bodied and complex. Very malty and toasty. Unexpected fruitiness towards dried date with grape and plum but all in treacle. Sweet but strong wood acidity. Kind of buttery with fruitcake. Wants more!

Fantastic first introduction 31/10/24: Refined in the nose, reminding of Barbados. Evolves in the mouth, great balance between the different aspects in the profile. Quite round.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A magical Enmore. The nose is complex, with fruity aromas merging with the dark, sweet profile of Demerara, followed by glue, toffee, floral and pastry notes that form a structured, balanced and delicious whole. On the palate, the dark side is again present, with spices, coffee, mocha and chocolate, while caramel, toffee and sugar notes are not far away, with wood and fruit (dried fruit and apricots) rounding out this superb profile. The rum is very round, complex and balanced, the alcohol very well integrated. The very long finish is slightly bitter, with notes of leather and licorice, malt flavors, spices, dried fruit, a hint of freshness and a slight sweetness. A sublime rum, but unfortunately a victim of its own success.

Velier old demerara večer 17.9.2025 Řekl bych, že dneska nás čeká vrchol toho, co může rumový svět nabídnout. 1. RX5347 albion 1989 2. RX3502 uitvlugt SP-ICBU 1988 3. RX515 uitvlught ULR 1997 4. Už v nose je hromada nakouřeného dřeva, které se následně v ústech mění na nekonečný zážitek. Rád bych se k tomuto někdy vrátil, pokud máte možnost ochutnat ochutnejte!! Nádhera!! Edit. Nakonec jsme s kamarády popravili lahev.

Very different from other Enmore I've tasted yet. Way more round with some pastries, vanilla, coconut and caramel. Very complex with a magnificent alcohol integration. Best Enmore I've ever tried at the moment 💘😋

I have made a bottle kill on one of these very recently and I would have loved to have a backup bottle. The nose is fruity and full of spice and young oak topped with glue/varnish. Resting this one is very important. The palate is both intense, complex and well balanced. A tad less fruity but you do get burnt sugar with oak in there as well. The finish is very long and warm with a woody vanilla/toffee outing.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is very Bajan like. There are markers like glue, roasted wood with butterscotch, toffee, nuts, leather, vanilla, dried apricots, raisins and orange peel, s hint of a coconut. On aeration, strong plum arises, vegetal notes, spiciness and cocoa. 9:On the palate, the attack is tasty, balanced with fruits like orange, fresh apricots, then dried fruits like raisins, dried apricots, paired with roasted, later very toasted wood notes like burnt sugar, caramel, cream toffee, spicy vanilla and Demerara sugar with molasses help. With resting the rum, some rubber pops out, vegetal molasses, fruity notes with lemon peel, cocoa and mocha, as solvents fly under the radar. 8,8:The finish is long, toasted and dry, slightly bitter and citrus, dried fruits, woody notes like chocolate, brown sugar, toffee, leather and vanilla and molasses with dark licorice.. Edit:1.8.25

A dark and powerful Demerara Enmore rum that is really enjoyable. The alcohol is really perfectly integrated. This makes the rum seem almost soft and elegant. Nevertheless, a full taste experience.

Great old tropical Enmore and my first 1995. Very tasty and round but also quite spicy and bitter. I like the el dorado 1996 enmore much better overall and it's also a bit more complex. Nevertheless, an absolutely exceptional Enmore and a great opportunity! Thanks Oli! ❣️

3rd tasting and it gets even better. Raisins, nuts, on the lighter end but a fantastic rum. retasted and I have to withdraw my previous rating. Demarara rules again. An intense fruitiness with the characteristic raisin and plum flavors, cherries 🍒 which I didn’t taste bevor. Woody notes from the cask, a well balanced light bitterness from the cask in the finish. Not as heavy and deep as other demeraras, but intense, complex, lighter and very fruity. Up from 8.7 to 9.1 previous tasting: does the knowledge about the epic brand Velier influence our tasting? I love the demerara rums, their depth, the taste of dried fruits and the influence of the cask. This is a nice rum, on the nose leather, wood, tobacco and dried plums, but quite subtle. The palate has caramel, the plums and the cask. But is it above 9.0? Not for me. It lacks complexity. Compared to the silver seals demeraras I recently tried it gets less points as it even finishes average

Sehr angenehmer Demerara.
