Industria Licorera de Caldas Ron Viejo de Caldas Añejo 3 Años
What surprises most people here is how little there is: a light, thin Colombian column-still rum that shows up with green apple, a touch of tropical fruit and a mild sweetness, then vanishes almost instantly. Several tasters mention a musty, faintly metallic or plastic note. As one put it, "nothing bad, nothing special" — an everyday, easy-drinking pour rather than something to sit with.

First of all, a BIG THANK YOU to TheDunderHut for being part of the Wird&Blind set again. Together with DomM they took on this task. Unfortunately there was no unicorn, but we tried some great rare things that are otherwise hard to get hold of. The only thing I really missed were the stories about every single rum in the splitter.

Weird and blind Tasting Set von Artur.

6,5:On the nose, roasted wood notes with caramel, pastry, nuts, burnt sugar, spicy, metallic patina, musty and floral molasses, plastic hints and apple, banana, bump into our nosetrils.Nothing special goes on later. 5,8:On the palate, the attack is sweet, slightly bitter, alcoholic, light with roasted wood notes like burnt sugar, caramel, cocoa, cardboard, the molasses is floral, vegetal, the fruits dried, citrus and yellow, as some metallic patina comes in. 5,2:The finish is short, dry, bitter, sweet with hints of dried fruits, roasted wood notes, metallic patina.

Arturs weird and blind tasting.

Weird and Blind tasting @Artur: Schokolade, Pfirsich, leichte (vielleicht unnatürliche) Süße, etwas dünn.

Interessantes Blind Tasting, mal probieren was man sonst nicht trinken würde - danke an TheDunderHut!
Review by DomM
On the nose rather musty. With a bit of fruits (green apples) on the nose and on the palate. On the palate with some sweetness and musty notes again.

Plain rum. Nothing bad, nothing special.

Weird and Blind tasting #1.

Read full review →It's not unpleasant because it just doesn't have any character or flavour to make it unpleasant. If I had paid the retail price here in the UK (around £30) I'd have been pretty furious to be honest. Apologies for being brief but there are only so many ways I can...
