Cadenhead‘s Caroni HTR 1997
Give it fifteen minutes to open and the Caroni markers crawl out neat: tar, rubber and diesel wrapped in caramel, orange and charred wood. At 60.6% it's warm and peppery but tasters keep calling it easygoing for an HTR — the dirty notes are all present without turning brutal. A few wish it leaned fruitier.

14.12.2023 Retasting this rum and I still love it. The Caroni notes are more subtle but the overall balance is nice. --------------- Once this rum is rested the Caroni notes just come crawling across the table. I rested it for 15+ minutes before giving it a go. The nose has smoky wood, tar and rubber trailed by caramel, orange and a light earthy note. The palate is kind of in your face with roasted/smoky wood, tar, rubber, mango, caramel and light tobacco and iodine. What I like is the warm pepperyness on the palate. The finish is long and warm with wood and some earthy notes.

Great fruity caroni.

Very spicy. Has an interesting sweetness that goes well with the rest of the flavors.

Sehr trocken, malzig. Etwas speckig in der Nase. Interessanter 97er.

Great bottling and very different compared to the Kolonne Still Caroni from Cadenheads, which I had in my glass shortly before. Both great, but fundamentally different Profil🇹🇹.

Wenig Frucht.

Now this is a continentally aged Caroni I absolutely love! Quite alcoholic upon first whiff but those diesel/tar notes are there! The taste is just right up my street... lots of dirty tropical fruits and those typical diesel/tar notes are present but with a nice hint of charred wood and spice. Very peppery on the finish but those dirty notes keep on coming! Love me a 97!

Nose: toasted/toasted bread and flank, spices (cloves), varnish and exotic woods (sandalwood), coffee with almond chips, rubber, petroleum/alcohol, slightly fruity (orange and coconut) and vanilla, floral.Palate: caramel/melasse/burnt sugars mixed with coffee, spices (pepper and clove), a teaspoon of wood oil, some rubber, slight sweetness (citrus), bitterness (amaretto) and floral essences (mimosa/geranium) plus peppermint/eucalyptus at the very end. It's long and it's good (CMB)!
