Velier Caroni 4th Employees Basdeo „Dicky“ Ramsarran HTR 2000
"Initially more on the fruity side, then dirtiness and menthol builds up." That's the arc most tasters describe on this tropical-aged 2000 Caroni: mango and maracuja up front, then the classic rubber, tar and dirty notes, with tons of menthol and nougat, caramel and oak underneath. It genuinely opens up after 30 minutes in the glass — several found it one-note until they gave it time.

How does Velier Caroni 4th Employees Basdeo „Dicky“ Ramsarran HTR 2000 taste?
Aggregated from 53 community reviews.
Fruity, menthol-heavy tropical Caroni at cask strength Loved as a fruity, menthol-forward tropical Caroni with all the dirty rubber and tar. The one repeated catch: alcohol isn't fully integrated, so give it air.

Spirits Museum Tasting 29th of March 2025.

Spontaneously tried two randomly selected Caronis on the terrace with Jarek while swapping samples. In the duel were the RX6598 and the RX7335. Without question, these are two top bottlings. However, I liked the 2000 bottling a little better than the 1996, as it was fruitier and fresher without skimping on the "dirty" Caroni.

Waouh. Slightly gasoil / smoky nose, strong and fills up the nostril. Covers all of your mouth, very « nappant », same taste of slight smokiness, but complexity as well. Very long finish. A real treat

Toller 2000er Caroni. Etwas mehr auf der floralen, fruchtigen Seite. Absolut geiler Stoff.

Ein wunderbarer Caroni. Viel Menthol in der Nase, ergänzt um die typischen dreckigen Noten. Das zieht sich auch geschmacklich durch ergänzt um etwas Vanille. Tolles Erlebnis.

Also again complex and intense. Menthol in front, very slightly sour, somewhat buttery. Stale cola, so citrus and caramel. Very light dry white pepper. Very faint cherry. Oak with vanilla. Complex palate. Sweetly acidic, menthol and some muted chestnut. Oily it is, towards polish. I like it very much.

On the nose, freshness and menthol. Nice dirty caroni notes, nougat and then very fruity, mango and passion fruit. The long time in the barrel shows mainly through various spices. In the mouth a lot of nougat and wood. The finish is surprisingly short.Despite the pronounced Caroni notes and the 64% rather tame. Nougat, lots of menthol and lots of fruit.

This release requires drops of water or you're going to burn from the inside of your mouth. The finish is extremely long and flavours keep popping up in the finish for several minutes. A good one if you like a cigar to go with your rum 😉

Tropical 2000 Caroni with lots of beautiful caramel notes. Praline, nougat, vanilla, caramel candy with tobacco, leather and cola in harmony with rubber and (initially) a lot of menthol with some crushed black pepper. After a while, tropical fruits appear and the menthol becomes less and the rum becomes more complex overall.

A tad too much alcohol on the nose. Nice mint note. But on the palate develops a great spicy, intense flavor.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: A striking fruitiness awaits us on the nose, which increasingly combines with Caroni-typical notes of rubber, tar and some caramel. On the palate, the aforementioned aromas are paired with a rich menthol note, the high alcohol content also comes into play and a little oxidation is recommended. Overall at a very high Caroni level, which promises exquisite quality (the tropically aged bottlings are in a league of their own). From the 2000 vintage, which is also very convincing in terms of quality, this is one of the weaker bottlings in relative terms, which is due to the alcohol not being fully integrated. Nevertheless, anyone who finds their way to Caroni with such bottlings is on an enviably high-quality path.

A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

A lovely powerhouse that presents loads of fruits and menthol in a rubbery dirty melange. Some sweet notes in the palate. The finish hits you with a ton of leather and wood notes. All in all a marvel of the new millennium

Uhh, this is an exciting Caroni. On the nose I smell menthol, spruce, essential oils. In the mouth, the aroma is omnipresent. I feel reminded of a cold candy. When inhaled, the mouth is downright chilled. At first, I found the rum too one-sided, because not much was happening except menthol. But after half an hour in the glass, I taste again - and discover a completely different rum. Much more complex, the spruce is barely present. If I didn't know better, I could swear I had an unusual Uitvlugt in the glass.
