Brugal Añejo Superior 5 Years
Poured neat it's thin and a touch sharp for only 38%, so most people reach for cola or a cheap old fashioned instead. Expect light young oak, a whisper of vanilla and caramel, with a short finish. A dependable Dominican mixer that a few tasters call "good for mixing" — nobody's sipping this for depth.

How does Brugal Añejo Superior 5 Years taste?
Aggregated from 140 community reviews.
Light, woody Dominican mixer for cola Most see it as an everyday cola-and-cocktail bottle: light oak and vanilla, short finish, a bit sharp neat. A handful enjoy it iced, but many call it watery and forgettable straight.

Most helpful positive review
lovely, smooth almost floral and nutty - medium finish, quite harsh when drank without ice though. Very easy to drink iced. My first tasting of this I loved it, second tasting somewhat underwhelmed, but upon giving it a proper go again I just love it- smooth, nutty, delicious. Would highly reccomend

Very boring and short-winded

Edit: I've just realized that the one I brought back from the DomRep only has 37.5%. Both taste a little different, probably due to my imagination. But not really good either. But suitable as a mixer in a pinch. I thought it tasted better in the Dominican Republic. At home it somehow lost its flow. But it's my favorite in the PinaColada. Probably because I get vacation flashbacks every time.

A very woody nose with lots of spice. There's some grape and exotic fruits buried underneath it all. Sharp. A quite sweet palate. Brioche buns with a touch of cinnamon and oak. Less fruity and spiced than the nose would suggest. Also more rounded. The finish is short. A flash of ginger and softer wood notes. It's not going to blow anybody away but it's not unpleasant.

По мне самый лучший базовый доминиканец в свои деньги. Спиртуозности ноль. Все что хочешь от рома тут находишь

Good for mixing

I am pleasantly surprised by this rum. I wouldn't have expected too much for the price, but it's perfectly usable. Bought it for cola rum and found it to be good. Now have another bottle for cocktails, let's see how that works out.

Kurz und schmerzlos dieser Rum taugt nichts. Wenn überhaupt nur als Grundlage für einen Cuba Libre.
Review by Rumantisch

one of the best of the price for Cuba libre but that's it :D

Surprising notes of chocolate, coffee and caramel keeps one company. Re-tasted in the new bottle and after years it still manages to surprise with its typical Dominican warm notes followed however then by a woody dryness(of barrel/cork/skin/mold) that I find unique! Excellent quality/price ratio

Flat, watery, just boring. Might work in a drink.

A rather unspectacular Dominican, which one can buy for the price gladly times. Nothing to indulge in, but an every day sipper.

Sweet an inoffensive nose. Peach and honey with some wood and vanilla. Ok but not exciting. On the mouth everything is a let down, thin, watery and no depth at all. Wood and some brown or demera sugar. Finish has some ginger and a dry undertone. Short and unmemerable. Mixed maybe an average rum, sipped or anything similar don’t even bother
Review by Thunderbird
I am a little undecided here... on the one hand it is very concentrated , spicy and woody, but on the other hand there is an aftertaste that bothers me ... somehow like nail polish!

I'm not sure if some of the contents have actually seen the inside of a wooden barrel.

Read full review →It's very inoffensive. I wouldn't be surprised if you could pass this off as Vodka in a mixed drink. I can't put this rum into the bottom star rating as it isn't bad per se it's just really disappointing. I suppose Average is the best word to describe this effort....
