Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection (RA & Rum Tasting Notes) 2011
One of the highest-rated Chairman's picks members have tasted, and the notes explain why. The nose reads like peach iced tea — mint, green apple, thyme and a whiff of glue — then the palate turns dry and spicy: pepper, ginger, smoke, dried fruit, cedar and leather. A John Dore and Vendome pot-still blend that drinks younger and punchier than nine years suggests. Neat at 59.8% it bites; a few drops of water tame the pepper.

still a very, very cool blend of John Dore & vendome to perfection!🇱🇨❤️🤤 something between peach iced tea, papaya mint salad & rose water mango lassi papaya with a good portion of wood and shoe polish in the finish... totally wacky, totally exciting, I want more of it 😍🤤

Bacon, smoky, intense. The moment must be right.

For me, still among the top 3 of all the Chairman's I have tasted. Great nose, reminiscent of an exotic fruit salad. Spicy, herbs, tea, light mint and a non-distracting chemical note. This potpourri continues on the palate, ending slowly in a long finish with a slight umami.
Review by Stefan L
Wow!! 😍 This one is great, complex and I really like the style.

Good St. Lucia profile and quite atypical.
Review by DomM
Without any bias towards the lovely team who picked this one: this is a damn good Chairman’s indeed. Colin back to this, after some time the bottling never disappoints. Due to its relatively young age at bottling, it is more punchy and vibrant then some older contenders of the session. Wood has not taken over so much, leaving more room for an intense basket of tropical fruits (papayas) and some spices/dirt on the nose as well as on the palate. Excellent stuff.
Review by cigares
Fruit (yellow fruit and citrus) dominates on the first nose, with a sort of varnish and fairly dry cedar wood and a slight vegetal note. The palate is rather soft, then alcohol and aromas become more powerful, with cedar wood in the aftertaste, reminiscent of a sauna. A powerful, alcoholic, woody (cedar) finish that calls for a fine cigar!
Review by Lukas Jäger
Amazing! A bottling that captivated me from day one, when a sample suddenly appeared in my mailbox before it even went on sale. Fruity, tart, woody, full of character — a great blend of Vendome & John Dore. A bit like barrel-aged peach iced tea!

Rum or fifty shades of mint. Am now a mint fan and just follows me in every second rum. Here again in a new facet. Fruity Jamaican mint with a touch of rosemary. In the mouth, the fruits are riper, dried, but the mint is fresh. The spiciness of ginger and pepper brings a pleasant warmth, but is never biting, as with the Evanius Harris. In the finish comes after the mint again some sweet mango around the corner.Super rum!

Another rum where you get a lot for your money. Lightly fruity with wood, some smoky wood and medicinal notes. There is a very faint mint note at the end of the palate.
Review by Tschusikowsky
I didn't like it that much the first few times. Took the sample out again today and find it very tasty. The strong mint component reminds me of a TDL. Smoky, intensely minty, chocolate and leather, dried fruit, medicinal notes. Generally well balanced due to the sweetness. Delicious rum.

Beautiful bourbon aroma, plus tobacco and leather. Excellent Chairmans.

Number #2 of my Saint Lucia Tasting. This is a rum that’s completely different from any other Saint Lucia rum I’ve tried so far. It’s much more on the floral side — with eucalyptus, fresh thyme, clove, and a smooth leather note. The finish is long and so delicious, with lovely minty and eucalyptus notes, vanilla, oak, and more. Nicely done, RumX Team!
Review by w00tAN
A strikingly floral aroma on the nose: tea and herbs. On the second sniff, mint. Initially sweet on the palate until the intensity sets in and smokiness takes over. A striking drink, none of what you smell comes through on the palate. The finish is long and complex.
Review by Tim
Special and complex rum. Almost resembles a Jamaican, but floral and smoky notes are very dominant, which are not my favorite flavors. In the mouth and on the finish, there are many dark, but also herbal notes, with the smoke and berries lingering for a very long time. Complex rum, but not 100% on my wavelength.
Review by primus
The nose moves in fruity-floral understatement, only to strike on the palate: tropical fruits, wood and leather, as well as a mixture of burnt sugar and mint spread out, followed by a beautiful spiciness. A great, powerful drop.
Review by Chris L
Incredibly varied fruit basket on the nose without being too intrusive, very round, rather spicy on the palate, outstanding St. Lucia!
Review by Christian Rudt
Fruity on the nose with peach, dried apricot plus a hint of mint. On the palate then very intense and spicy with some dried fruit. In the nice long finish, these then garnished with herbs once again clearly pleasantly emerge.one must certainly give him the necessary time so that all the flavors unfold.

Franconian Tasting Gang - March 21, 2025 - Nuremberg: Five Chairman's Reserve in a small cross tasting. The Horizon has a very dominant, mega-fruity nose. It's there right after pouring, while the others still need some time to unfold. After a while, RdL and RA catch up. Similar picture on the palate, the three would be my favorites, while the LMDW is too woody for me and the Cask&Bottle has too much finish.

St Lucia distillers master's selection is always good, even very good. But this is better than very good. In my opinion, the best St Lucia distillers I've ever tasted. Perfect balance. Very, very good.
Review by Speedflo
I compared the three Chairman's Reserve 9y RA&RTN, the 9Y Evanius Harris, and the 20Y Old Brother in a cross-tasting. This one is noticeably young and, as a result, has some rough edges, but it needs some time in the glass. The spice and herbal notes are very present not only on the nose but also on the palate.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A heavier than usual rum from Saint Lucia. The nose is intense but strikes the right balance between aromas. Fresh notes of menthol, tea, and flowers blend perfectly with fruity notes (orange zest, green apple, peach, dried and exotic fruits) and woody and spicy notes (pepper, vanilla, toasted wood). The nose is reminiscent of a kind of peach iced tea. A rum with character but also very indulgent. The attack on the palate is increasingly intense with notes of tea, thyme and menthol, before more smoky and spicy notes (chili pepper, pepper, ginger) fill the palate. Dried fruit and peach add a touch of indulgence to this dry, powerful and tannic landscape. The profile is original but controlled. Despite this more pronounced profile, the alcohol remains very well integrated. The finish is long, medicinal, dry, tannic and slightly bitter with herbaceous notes. Despite a few floral notes, it is mainly the empyreumatic and woody aromas that stand out, along with a few spices (ginger) and leather. The profile has lost some of its smoothness but remains very elegant, exciting, and complex. A very nice selection that shows the variety of styles from Saint Lucia and its stills.

Compared to other Chairman's bottlings. Here, too, as with Romdeluxe, a very demanding rum. Definitely not something I personally would want to have in my glass all the time. Quite nice to have in my glass from time to time.

Delicious Chairman's... I like it a lot. Great John Dore & Vendome combination with lots of papaya, furniture polish, fermented fruits. Delicious. I really like it. There's also a hint of mint. Top rum, nothing to complain about.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
A well-rounded blend of spicy, sharp, roasted-smoky, and tea. Little fruit.

Review by Stylo
First experience with Saint Lucia Distillers..and definitely quite a good one! It is really fresh on the nose, with minty flavors well mixed with fruits (peach and green apple peel) and a touch of hazelnut and wood lingering in the background. Definitely more spicy on the palate, where ginger, pepper and cloves gently tingle your tongue and throat. Really nice expression!
Review by Benoit Mahe
Un chairman's plutôt bien réalisé mais auquel il manque quelque chose pour passer dans une autre catégorie. Le nez est sympa avec cette belle note de pêche mais la bouche manque de fruit et d'un peu de gourmandise.
Review by Barnagricole
Quite a full nose, oscillating between Jamaica with notes of varnish and pineapple, Trinidad with a dark, slightly heavy profile and the freshness of star anise, as well as vanilla and orange blossom. Still, the nose is very spicy, with a hint of barrel. On the palate, the first salvo of aromas is loaded with freshness and acidity. There's a hint of cane vinegar and citrus. Tertiary notes soon follow, with yeast lingering on the finish. There are also hints of tobacco. The finish is astringent but long. In conclusion, a very good rum that tastes more juicy than it tastes. However, it's a profile that for me lacks gourmandise and fruit.

Sehr schöner St. Lucia mit leichtem Hang zum Easy Sipper. Toll integrierter Alkohol, wunderbare Balance!

Intense rum with dominant notes of licorice and smoke. Alcohol is well integrated.

Wow a real beauty. Herbal and minty TDL like. Woody and roasted. Something dirty on the nose. Good shit!

Very nice John Dore 1 and Vendome still blend. Interesting profile: mint, peaches, spice, smoke,... Sometimes reminds me of a nice fresh TDL. Saint Lucian rums are awesome and it's a must to at least have one good bottling in your collection.
