Gleann Mor Spirits Company Bellevue Leith Stillroom Single Cask Rum 1998
Dried apricot, orange peel and a creamy oak backbone define this 21-year-old Bellevue from Guadeloupe. Members find it intense and fruity with dark red fruit, licorice and a touch of smoke, all wrapped around fairly dominant wood. One taster noted a sherry-cask fruitiness. At 58.6% the alcohol is very present but well-woven, and a few wished the finish ran longer.

An excellent '98 Bellevue with beautiful deep dark red fruit.
Review by Frank
A beautiful old Guadeloupe with a rich nose and a powerful yet balanced palate.Nose: intense and concentrated, spicy and fruity at the same time. Ripe lemon, kumquat and black currant bring sweet and sour freshness, blackberry and date heavy sweetness. Fragrant wood comes through now as well, accompanied by vanilla, caramel and some cream toffee. Slightly smoky at the back. Has something of port. 87Palate: concentrated, compact yet round and balanced. Spicy-fruity-woody. Hard to pin down. A mix of light lovage, currant but also something like brioche and caramel. Also seems creamy. Roasted nuts and soft licorice out the back. Interesting and tasty. 89The heavy molasses profile from Guadeloupe really appeals to me.

#4503 02.12.2023 Price to quality is very good in my mind on this release. Very fruity with an intense nose once rested. The palate is oily and fresh with a nice orange touch. The finish os medium to long, medium dry and kind of light with some orange. The empty glass has some chocolate and nice licorice. Love the fruityness.

On the nose a pleasant fruit of dried apricot and sweetness, later joins young wood and sour cherry! On the palate it spreads creamy and mild with a subtle sweetness! Wood and barrel come in, the alcohol is perfectly integrated....The finish is unfortunately relatively short... and discreet! An excellent rum for a cozy evening

I had this sample for a while and could not decide. It is tasty, but also not easy to sip: it does require a certain amount of attention. I asked I would say wood is quite dominant, not in a bad way, but it sets the scene. Other notes play into this one, but onmly go along and do not take over. There is fruit, but not too much, a bit of burnt Caramel and licorice. The alcohol does force some of the required attention, it is very noticeable but not harsh if one is used a bit to higher ABV rums.
