Barbancourt Rum Artesanal Haiti Rum 2004

Give it 30 minutes in the glass and it wakes up into a proper fruit bomb — mango, mandarin, dried apricot over cut grass, licorice and dark cocoa. One member sips it neat as a "Fruchtbombe," others knock a point off because the 58.9% heat isn't always tucked away cleanly. Cane-juice Barbancourt with real vegetal, mineral character.

7,9:On the nose, the first impression we get is fruity with citrus/lemon peel, dried apricots and roasted wood, caramel, vanilla. They are yellow, coming from bourbon barrel ageing. When aired, it becomes thicker, buttery, spicy, there are vegetal notes as hay, flowers, mint and herbs. Some tropical fruits with mango appear. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is fruity and spicy with tropical, yellow fruits, becomes woody, dry, the sugar cane is mineral and honeyed. There are vegetal notes with olive, grass and mint. After well rested, some metallic notes crawl in, the wood is roasted, there is some licorice, cocoa and brown sugar. Tasty apricot and lemon peel also join the teater. 8,1:The finish is long with honeyed and mineral sugar cane, woody, dry and fruity with citruses, yellow fruits and banana, vegetal with mint. Edit:15.5.26

Aged rum

Aged rum

Avg Rating 8.0/10 over 16,000 Rums

Aged rum is where the spirit earns its complexity. In a tropical warehouse a barrel loses 6 to 10 percent of its contents to evaporation every year, which is why an 8-year Caribbean rum can taste deeper than a 20-year Scotch. This page gathers every rum on RumX that has spent real time in wood, with community ratings to separate the genuinely mature from the merely dark.
