11.10.2025 Retasting at Whisky Live, Hamburg. Still like it a lot. -------- This is a wow factor rum, because you don't expect a Chamarel to taste like this. The nose is fruity with spices and wood. Leather, tobacco and licorice and a hint of grass follows. The palate is intense, oily and dry with wood, fruit and spice followed by coffee, tobacco, chocolate and wine. Overall the palate is spicy. The finish is long and spicy with tobacco and raisin. The finish is dry like the palate. Price to quality can be discussed.

Nose is very earthy and floral almost like a garden. With a slight sweet smell. Woody and sweet taste some liquorice coming through. Again sweet earthy taste, changing to a sweet/menthol finish that lasts for a while

Un assemblage de rhum de l’île Maurice avec du caractère. Le nez se pare d’une influence agricoles avec des notes végétales sur l’herbe fraîche, puis des épices (piment, poivre, vanille) qui viennent accompagner le bois. Les fruits sont plus incisifs sur les agrumes comme l’orange et le citron vert. Un profil sec mais harmonieux sur le plan olfactif. L’attaque en bouche pourrait faire penser à un Nine Leaves avec des notes boisées et des épices atypiques (notes salées, piment) ainsi que du whisky. Il y a également une sensation de noix rôti qui ressort et renforce le sentiment d’un rhum venu d’ailleurs. Le fruité est succinct (raisin sec), suivi par une touche florale et caramélisée. Le profil est sec et vif mais reste maîtrisé, notamment au niveau de l’alcool. La finale est plutôt longue, toujours marquée par ces épices, cette note de sel et de rôti qui apporte de l’amertume et de la sécheresse au palais. Le côté végétal ressort un peu plus avec de la verdure et du thé. Les fruits sont globalement effacés. Un rhum un peu âpre mais bien construit et plutôt original pour ce terroir, qui manque toutefois d’un petit quelque chose pour prétendre au haut du panier.

Solid rhum, but nothing more. That it was bottled by Velier, you do not notice here (the rhum is in no way somehow outstanding), but that should be heartily indifferent in an evaluation of smell and taste. We are not talking about the bottle price here ... So again: Solid bottling, solid 80 points.

Eine frische krautig-grasige Nase, mit einer floralen Würze, sowas wie Muskatblüte. Leicht süß von Honig. Etwas fruchtiges, vielleicht leicht Richtung Aprikose. Am Gaumen salzig-süß, würzig mit Anis und Vanille. Aber auch etwas fruchtig, vielleicht in Richtung Sauerkirsche. Kurz kommt etwas bitteres und dann gleich wieder etwas herb-süßes. Eine leicht Mandel Note ist auch zu vernehmen. Im Abgang grüner Tee und grasiges Zuckerrohr. Schöne Geschmackskurve.

Vůně je mnohem výraznější než Chamarel 2013, který jsem měl před chvílí. Příjemná, svěží květinová vůně. Chuťově je na tom podobně. Nic divokého. Zase hodně propsaný sud a znatelné třísloviny. Závěr cca středně dlouhý. Kvalitní rum, ale moje očekávání byla vyšší. Edit: není to špatné, ale prostě tomu něco chybí
