Savanna Créol Straight 2020
One taster nails it: olive plays "chef d'orchestre" here, riding over grassy sugarcane, licorice and floral notes. This is a raw, unaged Reunion agricole at a hefty 67.4% — herbal, mineral, salty and edgy. Several found it intensely vegetal and floral; one preferred the calmer 52% version. Fruit shows up too: banana, quince, sour cherry. Not a soft sipper.

#5400 14.06.2025 We should have been on a hike in Schleswig today, but my wife had a minor accident yesterday, so I'm going to run some samples instead 🤣 Nose Intense, faint smoke, fruits, light citrus, vegetal, light rubber anise, light orange, faint herbal. Palate Intense, warm, faint smoke, sugarcane, fruits, citrus, light mango, faint rubber, light anise, vegetal. Finish Long and warm, fruits, citrus, light floral, sugarcane, light licorice. Empty glass Light caramel, licorice, light herbal, faint rubber, light ketchup.

Very grassy, salty, mineral. In my opinion, the only really good creol blanc is still the one with 52%. For a change, I definitely like the diluted version here more than the overproof version.

The rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favourites. I recommend everyone to try especially the higher ester pieces like Grand arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few little drops of liquid for a long time.
