TCRL Hampden Jamaica HD (Selected by Kirsch) OWH 2012

Most people land in the same place: a pleasant Hampden that's softer and rounder than you'd expect from the name. This is the OWH mark, so the wild esters are dialed way back — expect banana, mango and pineapple up front, then spicy roasted wood and vanilla. A few call it "too soft" to really stand out; others love the fruity nose and easy drinking at 58%.

The community says
  • Banana-mango nose
  • Round, easy palate

Everything you expect from a continentally aged Hampden, with a few more traits that could come from the years spent at the tropics. Tropical fruits, almost rotting, are dominating the scene along with esters. While drinking there is a nice pastry note, even if alcohol integration is not perfect and there is a bit of astringency. This is an hybrid between the two Hampden styles I am used to drink, but still pleasant to drink

Nose: Bull's eye. Delightful fruity aromas of tropical fruits like mango and banana paired with esters and spice. Palate: This is joined by chocolate and lacquer aromas over time. The spice comes to the fore, the fruit recedes. Finish: Spice and vanilla. Not as complex as many older Hampdens, but a real value for money tip that scores for me especially on the nose.

... Hampden, legendarni jamajska destilerka, ktera krome rumu produkuje take alkohol do parfemu. Ve vsech rumech z teto destilerky ucitite divoke estery, po kterych cely vas organizmus nasakne vuni zluteho tropickeho ovoce - manga, papaji, anansu, broskvi. Jeden z rumu, ktere "must try before die"

14.12.2019 A nice get together in a summerhouse with family and friends and rum for some of us. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Light wood, faint smoke, fruity, pineapple, orange, light polish, spice. Palate Round, fruity, light wood, pineapple, faint honey, spice, cinnamon, light coffee. Finish Medium to long, light wood, fruity, light coffee, cinnamon, faint chocolate.

A very nice nose with light fruitiness, ester is barely perceptible! On the palate, initially a tart sweetness, which then quickly gives way to the spicy woody side. It spreads creamy and smooth, the alcohol is acceptably integrated. The finish is also spicy with some long tongued black tea flavor. Given the price, a good low-ester rum from Hampden

Restrained but soldier rum through and through, balanced but without any notable intensity or outliers. Lots of fruit such as banana, lychee, citrus fruits. Buttery, faint spices and some wood. More grape and cherry on the finish.

A good Hampden. Overall too soft and restrained to stand out. Lots of vanilla and banana, less estery notes. Great sipper

For me, very alcoholic and not really round. Not a flagship
