Bielle Rhum vieux de Marie-Galante 2003
Roasted oak, dark spices and dried fruit lead here, with coffee, chocolate, tobacco and a honey note that tasters call a Bielle signature. This is an aged agricole that doesn't shout "grassy" — the wood and warm spice take over instead. Several people found it a touch hot and unbalanced until a few drops of water opened it up. Peach and raisin round out a deep, spice-heavy profile.

Extremely tasty Agricole with well integrated wood notes, eucalyptus mint, strong peach fruit notes.

Another nice release from Bielle. Typical high quality that of course comes at a price. However the price is pretty good considering what you get. The nose is there from pouring into the glass. A lightly sweet nose with roasted coffee followed by caramel, chocolate and vanilla. There is a very light touch of raisin as well. The palate is complex and well balanced. Roasted oak noted with a light sweetness to it. Then chocolate, caramel and spices. In the lighter notes after resting I find licorice and dried fruit. There is a very light bitter note but it doesn't interfere at all. The finish has roasted oak and raisin followed by light licorice.

Wow, that's a board! Somehow old Biellle rarely disappoint! Dark and roasty, the barrel comes through nicely, but then quickly turns into burnt sugar, maple syrup and forest honey! This is joined by dried fruit, raisins and prunes and a hint of cinnamon and aniseed. Really pleasant and tasty, it certainly rivals many large bottlings!

A charming Bielle that opens with an array of spices (vanilla, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, licorice and anise). The woodiness blends perfectly with notes of nuts, dried fruit, tobacco and a hint of chocolate that rounds out the whole. After aeration, candied fruits, pastry notes and sugar cane are felt, adding greediness to a profile that is both complex, deep and very pleasant. The attack on the palate is no exception to the nose, with warm and sweet spices bursting forth from the first moments. Notes of coffee, chocolate, tobacco, leather and nuts accompany a toasty sensation that sharpens the rum's profile towards a very characterful, yet very gourmet empyreumatic side. Dried fruits, peach and sugar cane bring a welcome fruity and vegetal touch to this rather dark profile. The integration of the alcohol is excellent. All the flavors work together to form a very elegant and deep blend. The finish is long, woody and spicy notes dominate the proceedings with some dried fruits, tobacco and hazelnut. No real surprise but a continuity with the rest of the profile that allows to finish on a very pleasant note. Although it is not accessible for everyone in terms of price (which could be qualified as its biggest flaw), it remains a very great rum, of an impressive richness with a perfect harmony of flavors that only Bielle has the secret. Magnificent and terribly effective.

Excellent Agricole rum in cask strength. I am fascinated. Addendum: Photo Addendum 2: after a year, I have emptied the last of the sample. Still super Agricole, beautifully complex aromas of wood, spices and a balanced sweetness.

Simply terrific! I just love these agricoles that don't taste agricoley too much! Thank you, Leo, for the blind sample for the RumX Christmas giveaway!

Got my hands on some Bielle, and it is a nice experience. Rums from this distillery are hard to find here, or quite expensive, but I find this worth it. It is balanced, quite lot of Caramel, a bit coffee and smooth fruit to the nose. The taste is well balanced between Agricole notes, mint, wood and again some Caramel. Had this again with a friend, this time I got more wood and some licorice as well. Comment of my friend: "taste of an old house... " It was still a very nice sip.

Great dry rum. Tastes like excellent old Agricole without drifting into the grassy Süßholzrichrung. I like very very much.

A wonderfully fruity nose. Slightly nutty with raisins, I would say. Very nicely balanced taste. It has a certain depth that I really like. The finish also lingers for a long time. Wonderful.

Great rum, delicious nose immediately after pouring. Tasted good with and without a few drops. Spices on the palate more varied with a little water.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Very round, matured, Brut de Fut Rhum. The typical grassiness of Agricole is still present here, but is somewhat pushed into the background by spiciness, roasted aromas, a pleasant sweetness, fruit and clear wood notes. Beautifully intense. Alcohol is perfectly integrated.

High caliber, intense Agricole with a strong wood presence. With time it more balance and it's much softer. Profile less nutty to the other Bielle from Rasta Morris that I had. Would be curious to compare to some other agricoles with similar powerful profile. Thanks Mentalo and JakobM for sharing this sample with me (I made a blend of the two samples, once I realized that it's the same one).

Really nice rum that I was able to get a sample of through the Rum-X forum. This one was nice on the nose, showing off a range of delicate notes. On the first taste I was taken by the complexity but also the heat, which was a tick overpowering. I added a very small amount of water and it helped. Oak, spice, vanilla and caramel and a bunch more I just couldn’t quite put my finger on because it was a symphony of flavour and sensation. Only reason it doesn’t score a tad higher is that the balance was little off until water was added
Review by Manuel
Very pleasant Bielle, for me rather on the dry side with herbal notes on the finish. It wasn't as impressive on the nose as I expected, so it just missed out on a top rating.

Toller Agricole!
Review by Joachim Guger
The rum needs some water, otherwise it is too strong and a touch unbalanced. Sugar cane, brioche, great integrated wood maturity, tobacco. Very nice, pronounced peach notes. In the mouth complex spice bazaar. The finish is ultra great. Very nice licorice. A great, mature Bielle. Highest craftsmanship, powerful and perfectly balanced.
