Hampden Kill Devil (The Whisky Barrel) C<>H 2007
Nail polish, overripe pineapple and marzipan hit first, backed by real Hampden funk — solvent, glue, fermented red fruit. At 64% the heat is there, but most tasters say the alcohol sits well and lets the tropical fruit through. Continentally aged, drier than you'd expect, ending long and tannic. A few found the bitterness on the finish a touch much.

Aggregated from 40 community reviews.
Intense, funky Hampden with a bitter edge A loved young Hampden — huge esters, pineapple and nail polish over well-integrated heat. The catch a few flag: a dry, tannic, slightly bitter finish.

28.02.2020 Had a nice meet up with new rum nerds. Notes. Light in colour. Nose Wood, citrus, pineapple, spice, round. Palate Medium oily, wood, light roasted, citrus, pineapple, herbs, balanced. Finish Long and warm, fruity, citrus, spice.

A superb Hampden offering excellent value for money. The nose opens with a funky aromatic bomb, whose concentration is heightened by the high alcohol content. The watts are there, it's intense and quite heavy, but this perfume still perfumes the nostrils with notes of esters, nail polish, glue and solvents, along with ripe exotic fruits and fermented red fruits. The profile softens considerably after aeration, losing some of its high ester status. Liveliness returns on the palate with an aromatic explosion, ranging from the fruity, phenolic notes of the usual funk to flowers and olive, with a slight pastry edge on marzipan. The alcohol is very well integrated. This cuvée is sweeter, fruitier and more affordable than the Flensburg, but perhaps a little less striking than the latter. The finish is perfumed, dry and tannic, with a hint of bitterness despite the esters and exotic fruits still present on the palate. A devilishly intense rum.

Nose: little more delicate / additional (unusual) herbal notesLess spikey / powerful / fruit basket vs. pineapple forward / very adstringend

A very lovely rum, I really appreciate the mix of solvents, slightly overripe fruit and funk.

Great continental Hampden that has it all

Amazing young Hampden. The CH marque is perfect. So much presence as soon as you open the bottle. Not even a high ppm Isla whisky can’t keep up the smells this high esters rum brings. I still have the other syster Cask at 62,5% and the 2x11yrs. Amazing stuff there too! Perhaps the coolest rum I’ve in my collection. Young, wild, in your face. Pineapples, nail polish, vineger, lime and lurking in the back sweetness in the form av tutti fruity chuggingumm. These 4 casks where selected by The Whisky Barrel. What a selection! Amazin stuff!!! B: Yes! If you can find a bottle.

WOW! I’ve had in the past an Habitation Velier CH and it was extreme powerful in funk..this one appears to me more tamed, yet absolutely amazing! On the nose, the alcohol is well integrated, allowing you to focus on tropical fruits flavors (pineapple, mango, banana), then some minerals like rocks, then orange jam and flowers in the background! The funk is just another layer of flavors, that adds complexity! On the palate, the alcohol is more present, it tingles your tongue. Again, fruits, the jam is now more like candied orange peel, marzipan, all with the right amount of astringency! Truly a gem, at a way more reasonable price of the HV!

Delicious Hampden, but a little too edgy for me.
Review by Righrum
An esters driven continentally aged Hampden. On the nose, canned ananas provides the fruity part along with nail polish, with little wood in the end. Drink side, bitter and watery again, still a nice dram though

A great Hampden with lots of overripe fruit, chocolate and nail polish. The alcohol is well integrated.

lots of ester and funkyness - should be bought

Richtig hart in die Fresse. Obstkorb und Säure mit nur dezentem Holzeinschlag. Zum damaligen Preis unschlagbar
