Velier Caroni Heavy Trinidad Rum HTR 1983
Sip this one neat and slow — it's a Caroni, but a gentle one. You get the tar and rubber you'd expect, plus vanilla, leather, pear and raisin, though the palate reads thinner and a touch watery. Several tasters call it a "relaxing Caroni," rounder and softer than the dirtier bottlings. Lovely age, just lighter on the classic funk.

How does Velier Caroni Heavy Trinidad Rum HTR 1983 taste?
Aggregated from 35 community reviews.
Soft, lighter Caroni with muted tar and funk Most find this a soft, easygoing Caroni — tar, rubber and dried fruit are there but muted. The recurring gripe: it drinks a little diluted and lacks the depth the HTR mark promises.
Caroni fans curious about the softer, lighter 1983 bottlings

14.12.2018 A nice relaxing evening with good food and rums galore. Notes. Medium dark to dark in colour. Nose: light, wood, roasted, light leather, cherry, rubber. Palate: oily, wood, roasted, leather, cherry, light rubber, faint tar, light licorice. Finish: short to medium, wood, licorice, dried fruit, light rubber.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: With the two 1983 Caronis, it is noticeable that the dirty notes are not particularly present, instead rather light, i.e. LTR-typical sweet notes come to the fore. For me, the (alleged) Full Proof at 55% is a little ahead of the 52% High Proof thanks to a little more complexity and more concise tar and gum notes. Overall, the profile is almost like an LTR & HTR blend.

Relaxed Caroni. Tasty.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting: Nose and palate rather weak, little flavor, but round. Rather short finish.
