Cadenhead‘s Enmore XPD 1971

Collectors and deep-Demerara fans are the real audience here: a 1971 Enmore XPD from Cadenhead's, 29 years old at a hefty 64.7%. Expect varnish and polish up front, then dark chocolate, nuts, minty molasses and very old oak. Bone-dry — one taster noted "not a single gram of sugar." The finish runs long. A couple find the wood tips into bitterness.

Old dry Enmore: varnish, cocoa, endless oak Tasters call it near-perfect: varnish, spice, cocoa and minty molasses over ancient oak, dry and complex with an endless finish. A few find the wood slightly too bitter.

We are in the face of a true masterpiece! The rum literally sticks to your mouth! Integration between aromas and wood almost perfect! My new continental aging rum reference!

Nose- typical Enmore profile with dozen of added molasa. Smoky, woody. Tongue- strong taste Enmore. Strict, woody, smoky, not a single gram of sugar. If tou have a chance to taste this rum, do it. For any cost. Money will be there all the time, a chance to taste this rum not.

Fruity, sweet but also musty, evolving into very beautiful old wood. Rest of the sample needs to be tasted alone for further assessment.

This one is almost up to par with its older brother and just a joy for your nose and palate. Again you'd probably need to get it at auction like me if you want it.The nose is setting off with varnosh/polish followed by spices and nuts. The sherry cask is in there too with somme mint. The palate lives up to the nose again setting off with varnish and spices. Then it goes into chocolate, nuts and minty molasses. A very complex yet balanced rum.The finish is, like its older brother, forever and besides oak boasts spices, cocoa and a hint of sherry.
