Admiral Rodney HMS Princessa
Opinions land mostly in the "pleasant but underpowered" camp. Expect vanilla, caramel and toffee up front, then a drier, woody, lightly spiced middle with raisin and a touch of tobacco and leather. Several tasters call it well balanced and "not too sweet," while others find it reserved and one-note on wood. As one member put it, "it has almost everything, but all not so powerful."

Aggregated from 148 community reviews.
Smooth, woody sipper that plays it safe Most find it a smooth, balanced Saint Lucia sipper — caramel and oak, not too sweet. The recurring gripe: at 40% it feels reserved and a bit thin, with a short finish.

Overall I think that all of it are there, but everything’s to weak. The nose fruity and round with aromas of Raisins, vanilla, honey and tobacco. At the palate and during the medium long finish it’s fruity, spicy and sweet with flavors of vanilla, honey, raisins, tobacco, oak and caramel.

Good solid distillate. Very restrained on the nose. Shows little of what it can do. In the taste then sweetness, fruity but also dark roasted tones. However, nothing special either. You don't necessarily have to try it.

#5215 12.04.2025 Running through some samples at home. Nose Medium intense, wood, light roasted, light chocolate, light clove, faint leather, raisins. Palate Medium intense, light spicy, warm, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light leather, light cinnamon, lightly dry. Finish Medium long, medium dry, wood, raisin, spice, light tobacco, cinnamon, faint smoke, light leather. Empty glass Light leather, dried fruit, light honey, faint smoke, light chocolate. Needs to rest for a while to settle properly.

Rather weak aroma. Somewhat watered down

Nice bottle with a rum that doesn't need to hide, yes of course there is better from St. Lucia but as a light sipper for in between just right and not so sweet. The bottle also looks great on the on the shelf ;)

Dry, spicy, woody, slightly alcoholic, little sweet, bitter finish. Light red fruit notes (cherry)! Not for sweet rum drinkers...
Review by TheRhumhoe
A rum in the pure tradition of British style. The nose is soft, full of caramelized, spicy, vanilla and lightly fruity notes of raisin and exotic fruit. A hint of tobacco, leather and wood darkens the profile on the nostrils. The profile is simple, clean and precise. The rum becomes a little tougher on the palate. More woody, spicy and bitter flavors dominate and dry out the profile. Surprisingly, there are pastry notes of viennoiserie, caramel, brown sugar and bourbon. The palate heats up a little, but remains limited by the well-integrated but relatively low alcohol content. The finish is of medium length, even more bitter and astringent. The profile is dry, with (dried) fruit, toasted oak, sweet spices and burnt sugar. The evolution of the profile offers a nice contrast to the nose. Nonetheless, this is an easily accessible profile, both in terms of flavor and price, to discover the terroir of Saint Lucia.

Nase, Gaumen, Abgang=Holz, Holzwürze Sehr eindimensional. Belegt die Zunge, den Gaumen. Etwas für Puristen.

Nice balance, very pleasant

Quite pleasant but a little to little for me.

While it’s not the most unique, complex, or challenging rum out there, for a measly 40% abv this has a lot of good things going for it. SLD does a great job of showing what column still rum can do without having to rely on dosage or fancy (and overpowering) cask finishes, simply by pulling the distillate off of lower plates—and with some tasteful blending. It’s fairly rich and well balanced, bringing a natural sweetness and good barrel integration. My biggest gripe is that it’s far too reserved, the lower proof and perhaps tighter age range holds it back from being something greater.
Review by Narse

Nicely balanced, not too sweet, dry and woody.
