Flor de Caña Centenario 18 Años
Sipped neat or over ice is where most people land with this one — an Old Fashioned base for a few. You get caramel, vanilla, toasted nuts and dry oak, with a peppery, slightly bitter finish. The recurring gripe: at 40% it reads thin and a bit flat for an 18-year rum, more everyday sipper than deep dram. Naturally sweet, not syrupy.
The community says- Smooth, no burn
- Caramel and nuts

How does Flor de Caña Centenario 18 Años taste?
Aggregated from 266 community reviews.
Smooth, oaky sipper that drinks light for 18 years Pleasant, smooth and dry-leaning with caramel, oak and nuts, but many feel it's too light and one-dimensional for an 18-year-old at 40%. Reliable rather than exciting.

The taste is a rich entrance to a viscous, dry, full flavor with dark chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts, and brown spices. The finish is long with notes of charred oak, vanilla, and roasted nuts.

All my Tastings and Scores are purely based on “Rums under £50”. I rarely look at Rums over £50 for my YouTube.

Very simple, one-dimensional profile. Good mixture of sweetness and dryness, but in general barrel-dominated. Lacks intensity and the vodka note at the end ruined the experience 😞
Review by Stefan Persson
OK, but nothing special! The best with it is that it’s not as sweet as many Spanish styled rum.
Review by Rumpalumpa
Review by Vincent D
Light, easy-drinking rum. Caramel, vanilla, woody. Coffee notes. Roundness typical of rons. Spicy, bitter finish. Not very long, but pleasant to start with. I had fond memories of it and enjoyed trying it again, even if it's not what I'm going for today.
Review by LukaŽiga
7,3:On the nose, similar as its younger brother 12, we find aromas of caramel and vanilla, a sweet impression, next, after airing a bit, woody notes, chocolate, a touch of orange and a hint of walnut come to the fore. It's lively and pretty round, but not deep. 7:On the palate, the attack is less sweet than one might expect and also more woody, roasted. Caramel and vanilla are again present, hint of butterscotch, some nuts, a hint of spices, everything comes a bit dry and it gives first duo a new perspective. 6:The finish is rather short and discreet. There is a slight bitterness and the vanilla/caramel combination, with the influence of wood, dominates this last stage of the tasting...A bit dull.

Looking at the price tag this is a very good rum. Compared to its older brother this one is a bit lighter in the flavours. The nose is oaky with spices followed by sweet caramel and dried fruit. On top of that there is a hint of tobacco. The palate is also oaky with and sweet with fruit, vanilla and caramel as well as a hint of chocolate. The finish is medium long with and sweet with raisins.

Rumfestival Wien 20.09.2024 Sehr rundes Profil. Vanille, Karamell, getrocknete Früchte. Sehr würzig im Abgang. Angeblich ungezuckert.
Review by Air-one
Review by Goodoboy30
This is the oldest rum I've tried and WOW. It's really, really good! Do not ruin this by mixing it. Only sip. Neat, on the rocks, or just a splash of water. Although not my favorite rum, this one is top 3. I can't pick out all the nuances and flavors. All I can do is say TRY IT. You won't regret it

"Not sure about this. Hopefully cost is ok… En resume, mes notes de degutation : Au nez : Caramel, Vanillé En bouche : Caramélisé, Noix La finale plutot orientee vers : Caramélisé" Flor de Cana fait de bons produits en RON mais il ne faut pas se fier a l'age annoncé je trouve.
Review by MarcT
Not a favorite, too thin, lacking character. Much more wood influenced than other spanish style rums, or it just was more up front due to other flavors not dominating.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze

Salu! 🥃

Not my cup of tea, but still enjoable as an entry point for those who do not drink rum
Review by Mateusz
For me this was very hyped up rum that is very tasty and quite complex, but at the same time it’s very mellow on the palate lacks intensity of flavour. I had an impression as if it was watered down. Happy to have tried but not my favourite despite the fact I wanted it to be :)
Review by Yannick CULTOT

Clearly better than the 12. Can be nicely complemented in a cocktail with walnut bitters and honey.
Review by zabo
Review by Buddudharma
Review by X-Savior
On The Rocks: On the nose it is very gentle with caramel, spice and oak in a very smooth aroma. Taste reveals a strong spice and oak mixture with a unique sweetness that is brief but distinct. Finish is medium length with the sweetness transition into a stronger oak and slightly bitter trecole. Mixed Pepsi Zero: No Pepsi Zero on hand so super sad.

Not great, not terrible.
Review by ffarside
Delightfully sweet and woody. Nice peppery bite on the finish.

Vanilla sugar, orange, raisin, wood spice, blueberry and caramel. Good balance between juicy and spicy, and not overly sweet. But not very exciting either. This is typically something I pick when the weather's hot. Though I still enjoy it, once this bottle is empty there's not going to be replenishment. Going towards 50 euros a bottle, I think there are better alternatives by now.

Not quite balanced.
Review by rum_sk
Very pleasant fresh nose with apple or pear on the front suplemented by oak barrels and hints of cocoa. Alcohol is very prominent on the nose. First touch on the palate is so sweet and oily with lots of flavours such as burned sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate, caramel fudge and maple sirup. It somehow reminds me of a mount gay xo meeting pussers. Medium long finish with oaky notes on the tongue. Overall very good sipper that tastes naturally sweet.

Very smooth rum, with a wonderful taste, and it has more body than the cheaper rums I usually drink (apart from sugar bombs, but that's not an equal comparison). Sweetness is also there and is just right. Nose is toffee and tobacco. Taste starts with the usual caramel, oak and some vanilla. Then follow hazelnuts and tobacco. This is very promising as you don't get hazelnuts and tobacco in cheaper rums but for me the combination of these two flavors gets very strange in the mouth and sometime tastes like chicken liver, which is not very nice. It is very very smooth, with no burn at the end at all. Like others have noted, it needs some time in the glass to open up and for the alcohol to give way to other aromas. For the price (45EUR) I expected more in the aftertaste department, it's a pity since the taste is wonderful. But the weird liver aftertaste drives me off and the finish is very short.
Review by Kryštof
A little dissapointing. For a rum at this price point I expected a little more complexity. It's comparable to cheaper rums without much character. The only distinguishable feature is a sourness and a dark chocolate-y aftertaste.
Review by MaddenC11
Caramel and flowers on the nose. Very light flavor, toasty with notes of vanilla, spice, and dried fruit. The finish is short, giving a bit of spice. At the price range there’s better options but still an enjoyable sipper.
Review by Kasper H. Daugaard
Deep golden. Spiced nose with a booze and fruity touch. Caramelly flavour with spicy hints and cedar coming through. Medium finish with cedar being most obvious
Review by PeixeGato
Médium bodied and smooth but not syrupy. Cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, and a touch of coffee or cacao on the finish.

The aftertaste leaves a slight sharpness in the throat. It is easy to drink and has a good quality structure. It has a slight taste of cinnamon and woody tones.

Florals and caramel. Sweet and pleasant, but not super complex. It rocks smoothness. Dark amber pour. Had a glass of this at a Cuban restaurant in Frederick.

Very pleasant and easy to drink rum, light sweet tropical flavours. Rather boring though. Like an already, made sweetened, diluted cocktail.
Review by DruNierer
Incredible carmel nose with a hint of chocolate, taste is more roast nuts and chocolate, a touch of carmel as it finishes

Read full review →This offers a half way house - it appeals to my sweet tooth whilst retaining plenty genuine rum character. At a higher ABV say 46% this rum might well be even better. However Flor de Cana have a system in place so I doubt we will see anything too innovative...
