Malecon 20 Years - Rare Proof - Small Batch Distilled 1999
Here's the surprise: at nearly 50% it still drinks soft and round, not hot. Expect caramel, vanilla, chocolate and a little oak, with dried fruit and spice underneath. Several tasters read a clear sweetness here and suspect a touch of added sugar. Easy and gentle, though the finish fades fast. A comfortable Panama sipper for people easing past 40% rum.

How does Malecon 20 Years - Rare Proof - Small Batch Distilled 1999 taste?
Aggregated from 31 community reviews.
Soft, sweet Panama sipper, short finish Well liked as a smooth, sweet Panama sipper — caramel and vanilla over well-tamed alcohol. The recurring gripe: the finish is short and a couple find it too sweet.

Another big surprise. Unfortunately the finish is too short and maybe a tad too sweet for me. A great rum overall.

Tastes a lot like the 1996 version, but less powerful flavors and a little sweeter. I prefer the 1996 version. The nose is fruity and woody with aromas of vanilla and oak. At the palate and during the rather long finish it’s complex, sweet, fruity and spicy with flavors of vanilla and oak.

I wasn't expecting anything from this rum. The nose is surprisingly good, round, chocolaty with some raisins. Very drinkable on the palate, pleasing, I would guess a sherry finish or the addition of sugar. Finishes a little quickly.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A relatively elaborate profile for a Hispanic-style rum, with quite a few strings to its bow. The nose evokes something fairly sweet but with a modicum of character, including toffee, caramel, spices, a little wood, dried fruit and chocolate on a bourbon influence. A rather engaging nose at first glance. The attack on the palate still shows a kind of sweet roundness with caramel and chocolate, but the spices, oak, coffee, walnuts, chilli and cinnamon give it that peachy edge that suits this type of profile so well. The above-average alcohol level is not at all disturbing, on the contrary. However, the finish shows the limits of this type of profile, with a length that is far too short on the palate. Overall, we find the same archetype, but with slightly more toasted and dried fruit notes. A pleasant rum that allows sugar lovers to make a smooth transition to richer profiles.
Review by RumTaTa
Very pleasing nose, nothing bites - no wonder at just under 50%, very round. No surprises on the palate and again very relaxed. Unfortunately, the rum disappeared quite quickly from our perception in the aftertaste. Nothing is mentioned on the label, but it seems to me that a small amount of sugar is involved. Good Panamarum to get to know rum beyond 40% alcohol

Not uninteresting. Pleasantly woody, but also perfumed. I could imagine it perfectly with a cigar.
Review by RUMpelstilzchen
