This is the range of older tastings I had while living in China. Having my own business there opened all kinds of doors and one of them was access to the rum clubs around the country. This Demerara is rather light but thinking about the price tag it's pretty decent actually. The nose is fruity and woody with anise, herbs and grassy notes. Once rested the Port cask maturation becomes more clear. The palate is light and lightly dry with fruits and wood trailed by anise, chocolate, honey and port wine. The finish is medium to long with raisin and chocolate and a nice trailing port wine flavour. I would habe loved this one with a bit higher ABV.

With all the Bristol bottlings, you unfortunately have to realize that the dilution costs them quite a few points. This is also the case with this one. Although it has a lot of flavor for the ABV, it lacks the real kick.

8,2:On the nose, tropical fruits like banana and grassy, herbaceous molasses bumps into our nosetrils, with rubber, spicy, slightly roasted wood notes like anise, vanilla and chocolate. On aeration, citrus like orange peel is out, dried fruits and plum, some tobacco. 7,9:On the palate, the attack is mild, dry with spicy wood and notes like vanilla, nutmeg, anise, as molasses is honeyed, flowery and herbaceous, vegetal with pencil shavings and strong cigar note.The fruits are citrus with orange and dried with raisins, later tropical.When oxidized well, the rum is sometimes bitter, slightly darker with chocolate and licorice. 7,6:The finish is quite short, dry and tannic, slightly smoky, spicy and fruity with dried apricots, raisins, the molasses is herbaceous and grassy...

Beautiful, simple Demerara from a sherry cask. That's how the good rums were almost 20 years ago.

Quite impressive. Significant for 46%. There is a lot of wood in both nose and taste. Fine balanced with sweetness, salty liquorice / salmiac. It's a rare taste in rum that I cherish a lot.

On the nose, it's still quite exciting, but when tasting it feels very thin and shallow. This rum really has a lot to offer, but unfortunately it’s diluted down into uninteresting rum nirvana.

What a pity. On the nose, the expected Demerara aromas, burnt sugar with oak barrel and strong impressions. Unfortunately, these fade immediately after sipping. Yes, it remains bold on the palate, the oak is quite pronounced and it has a certain volume. But the dilution to 46% ABV unfortunately didn't do it any favors; it becomes very one-dimensional and thin because of that.
